Pregnant after IF

Elevated white blood cells

Hi- did anyone have a high WBC count in early pregnancy? My OB ordered a heme profile and elect diff and my WBC value was 16.5 and the normal range is 4 to 11. The nurse said it probably means that I am fighting an infection (I feel ok) but she was going to flag it for the doctor to review.
I know I don't have a UTI as they checked for that the same day so I am not sure if this is normal or not!!!
Ugh- any advice?
Thanks Ladies for reading this long post! Happy Friday!

Re: Elevated white blood cells

  • Well, I won't be much help since I have no idea if its normal, but I had a high count in my initial bloodwork too. I was also told I was probably fighting an infection, but that was the extent of it. They never mentioned it again or seemed concerned.

  • It's barely over normal so I wouldn't be to concerned. You could be fighting a uti or cold that your unaware you have.

  • I had a super high WBC throughout pregnancy and had to see a hematologist for monitoring. They tested for everything they could think of and told me that some women just respond to pregnancy with a strong immune response. Within two weeks after giving birth, my WBC dropped from 30,000 plus completely back into the normal range. Try to not worry -- if it stays up, they will likely send you to a hematologist for additional tests, but mine said it happens to like 5-10% of pregnant women and doesn't cause any harm.
