Pacifiers

So at my shower I received 12 pacifiers, 2 newborn MAM, four 0 to 6 month MAM, four Avent 0 to 6 months and two 3 to 6 month ones that are some unknown brand because SO mom got them from an NFL store for football season. So my question is do you think I should return some? I don't know if that is too many, but they're at least different brands and sizes. I know some babies don't even like pacifiers, so I'm just looking for opinions on what you would do, keep them all or return a few?

Re: Pacifiers

  • I don't think it hurts to keep them - LO may not like them or only like certain shapes. Most of them are so inexpensive that it isn't worth the hassle of returning. Plus you're likely to lose at least a few of them. I think i have 10 that I got at the shower.

  • If you plan on using pacifiers, I would hang on to them.  I cannot tell you how many I ended up losing or throwing away with DD.  Plus it helps to have extras, to keep in the car, at grandma's house, etc.
  • Hang on to them! We were always losing them and it is nice to have a few back ups laying around.
  • Another vote for keep. I wouldn't open them yet and if your kiddo doesn't like pacifiers then they become an easy regift!

  • Keep them! I heard on the news, that you should actually throw your pacifiers away after 2-3 weeks of use.  Even after proper washing and sterilizing.

Also, it is good to have a variety of brands, just in case your LO prefers on over the other.

  • I went through a ton and always lost them so I would keep them all.
  • There is a monster that lives in your house, car, and sometimes even your diaper bag that thrives on only pacifiers. It will even steal them in broad daylight when you least expect it. It is closely related to the monster that eats baby socks. I vote for keeping all the pacifiers that you got, plus you'll probably end up buying a few more!
^^This!  You can never have too many pacis if you plan to use them with your little one.  I swear, they disappear into thin air.

  • So glad I read this! We received about 20 pacifiers and I had several packages in my return pile. Thanks for the advice, everyone!
  • Unless you want a specific brand for a specific reason (I.e. MAM because its orthodonticly approved to be good for their teeth) or something like that, then I would keep them cause you will undoubtedly leave one somewhere, lose them in the car, misplace them in the house, etc. so having a good amount is good. So if you really just want a specific brand then you could always return the others and get more of the brand you like
  • Thanks for the advice ladies! FTM here so didn't even consider the fact that I'll end up losing some. I guess that same monster takes all my bobby pins and pony tails @LibberDuck .

I'd keep them. I knew a baby that loved those NFL ones :) some babies are picky, some totally aren't and will take anything. I personally like the soothies or gumdrops because water doesn't get stuck in the bulb when it gets washed. I plan on only presenting those, but there are a few ransoms in a drawer from the shower just in case. Also, once you figure out what baby likes, buy like 20 of them. You'll save yourself sooo many headaches!

  • If you're choosing to use them I would keep them. I'm always listening to parents complain about how many they've lost or how they can't find one. Keep them and put them in different places.
