Newborn photo disappointment - VERY LONG, sorry

I got my LOs newborn photos yesterday.  I photographer stated that you get an email with a link to 25-30 images of different poses and a CD with the images and print release to print whichever you want. 

So I get the photos, there are 60 of them total but every one is in color and then again in black and white.  OK, fine...that's still 30 different images.  However, looking closer some of the poses are the same but there are only adjustments in the angle at which they are taken.  Furthermore, some of the photos are just zoomed in on other photos...and this counts as one of my images. 

Next, I notice that in some pictures where she's just laying on her stomach sleeping, there are 2 photos but the baby looks the EXACT same.  Let me explain, so she is laying on her left side with a drape over her stomach then the next photo she's laying on her right side with the same drape and everything about the image is the exact same except for the side in which she's laying...I compared the way her hair wisps were sticking up, the way the drape fell, the shadowing.  In one photo, her toes were even curled the same way.  And technically this counts as 2 different images. 

I don't know if she could have a program where she can "flip" the image or if it's just a lot of photoshop but, I'm kind of disappointed.  I paid ALOT for this photographer b/c you can't get this time back...this shoot cannot be redone.  What would you do/think?  Am I crazy?  Sorry for the novel.

  • Ya, mine were both color and B&W, some same poses w a slightly diff angle. I know what you mean. There were great pics I loved. And not so great ones.

    I agree w PP, write an honest review. And enjoy your best pics. I didn't pay a lot for mine, so I wasn't too upset. But I can totally understand how frustrating it would be to pay a ton and not be satisfied.
  • I can flip images on my phone...I'm SURE the photographer can as well.

    You can try to talk to her and explain your disappointment. Maybe there were other photos she has but just didn't take the time to edit them since flipping an edited one is faster.
    If she refuses to help let her know you'll be writing public reviews based on your experience, call it a day and be thankful for the photos you do have.
  • How many poses did she actually do in the photo session? With ours we really only had about 10 poses but she took multiple pics of each (different angles, some close up, etc). Granted we didn't spend an extreme amount of money either.
    about the same amount of poses.  some were the exact same pose but one was with a headband and the other without

  • It's not that some are similar.  It's that it's the exact same image but flipped to a different side or zoomed and cropped. 

    If I'm getting a CD, I can zoom and crop all I want.  If a pose is similar but still different (i.e. arm is moved, different facial expression) I don't mind.  To me, that's a different photo.

  • Same here. Lots of the same pics with zooming and black and white. Pissed me off but I look at the bright side and realize some of the pics are great. Quality not quantity.

  • Why not communicate your concerns with her? If the photos are that bad maybe she could give you some type of discount on a future package?

    Holy smokes. That is a lot. I'd definitely ask her about it. And go from there based on her response. Explain your concerns and what your expectations were and see what she gives you as responses. Then determine course of action.

    Damn. You got robbed. That sucks. I'm so sorry. I would definitely write a review on google or yelp or something. Save anyone else from getting swindled!!!

    Well, it's not out of mine.  I just expected more if I paid more. 

    Thanks to everyone who offered advice!  I emailed her last night expressing my concerns.  I'll keep you posted as to what she says.

    I'd be ticked. I had a similar experience, and after the second time, decided to bite the bullet and get a $500 camera. With 3 kids, it's more than paid for itself. Plus, I noticed, with most of my shoots anyway, they just have a pretty/fluffy blanket and do lots of close ups in natural light. That's what we did with our newest LO and everyone thought we had them professionally done!

  • The exact same thing just happened to me. It would be funny if we had the same photographer. I paid $250 though.
  • So I emailed the photographer on Friday when I made the post to express my concerns and see if she could include some unedited images. She responded and said she would check the other images early the next week. I JUST heard from her yesterday night and she basically said there was nothing she could do ( wouldn't add any more images).

    I'm so ticked! She didn't offer to refund any money and offered no other solution. I guess there's not anything to do at this point except write pisspoor reviews ... and believe me I will. Thanks for everyone's advice...and lastly!

    Dallas/ft. Worth, stay away from chuncky monkey photography lol
