We registered for and got an Exersaucer which was great.
When DS was about 10 months old, we also got him a push toy - not a traditional walker by any meas. He loved the push toy thing and I think it did help him to learn to walk.
Probably not - my little brother fell down the stairs twice in his. We had a nice wooden gate made to match the railings but sometimes people would forget to latch it & down he went. It was on of the scariest moments seeing him fall down those stairs - I'll never forget it.
