Update & vent - FTM: Intense pain... is this it? (UPDATE)

I'm a ftm so I really do not know what to expect... i've been having some really intense pain that I think are real contractions less then 5min apart for 30 minutes .... it's not like the BH i've been having since week 24. These are definitely starting in my back and are wrapping to really low in my pelvic area, like right above my pubic bone. There is so much pressure. When LO moves during them it hurts like hell, feels like pinching and twisting.... I can't talk and can barely breathe. Pain is radiating down the back of my legs and butt. My stomach is hardening during them but isn't releasing right away. A few have left me in tears. Really, it hurts the most when she moves during them.... is that normal?

I just don't know for sure and since i'm having a c-section I feel like I have to be sure when I go in.... advice? Call in? Wait it out?]

UPDATE #1- Spoke to the on-call doctor, he said it sounds like labor and to wait it out if I want since i'll be having a c-section and they'll need to make sure it's really active before proceeding. We decided to wait and things did slow down but now they're picking up again and are painful. I'm thinking we might go in... i'd rather be safe then be one of those women who has a toilet baby - lol. Bags are packed ... will update again later.
Update -#2 : went in with intense contractions at 4-7min apart, cramping and an increase of discharge. After 2 hours of monitoring they tapered off to 7-10min. Had a cervical check that was so insanely painful only to learn I'm at a zero. Needless to say my frustration automatically kicked in and then minutes later so much blood. I panicked. I know it's normal but I was not prepared. After speaking to my Ob, I had the option to stay and be monitored another 2hrs and have another cervical check but if still at a zero id be sent home. Within 30min my contractions were at 10min apart, still as painful but not as frequent. We decided to go home. Quite honestly I'm frustrated ... This is our 3rd l&d visit and now that I'm bleeding I wish we never went in. Just one more thing to worry over. They said its possible I could be back in a few days but I told my husband unless my water breaks we are not going back until I'm cursing in pain and toppling over. I was there tonight but apparently it didn't matter enough to make a cervical change. Good news is LO looks good and was handling the contractions well. I am grateful for that peace of mind. Going to try and sleep and pray this bleeding stops and these contractions chill ... Or my water breaks. It would be nice to have the certainly of knowing labor IS right around the corner instead of these painful misleading contractions. Word to the wise : do not go to l&d too soon. It sucks having to pack up and go back home not having the slightest clue when you'll be back for real Vent over.

  • Call! That's not what they felt like for me, but everyone is different.
  • Sounds like real contractions. I would call fosho. Just be aware that sometimes your body can/will go through false labor.

  • Sounds like contractions, but they could fizzle out. Keep an eye on them since they've only been going on for 30 minutes. Never hurts to call your doc though if you're worried or in that much pain.

Did your doctor give you the 5-1-1 or 3-1-1 rule?

  • Try going for a walk for 5 or 10 mins... If they continue or get more intense, then it's most likely the real deal!
