High-Risk Pregnancy

First Lovenox Dose and Introduction

This is my first pregnancy, and I'll be taking Lovenox daily because of a history of a blood clot in the past.  I was on Lovenox for several weeks back when I had my blood clot (it took forever for coumadin to become therapeutic), but knowing I'll be on this for so long kind of made me emotional.  I am 8 weeks, and even though I've seen my little nugget on ultrasound, I think taking my first dose of Lovenox really made the pregnancy seem real to me more than anything else has so far.  I wanted to thank everyone who contributed to the tips post-- I think pushing it slower made it hurt much less, and icing after helped so much.  It is really comforting to know there are so many other women out there who are pregnant and on blood thinners too.  :)

Re: First Lovenox Dose and Introduction

  • Wishing you a healthy pregnancy! I'm in the same boat (history of DVT, first pregnancy) but nearing the end. It really isn't so bad to do the shots. I'm now 33 weeks and I'm still doing my own shots- I thought my belly would get in the way and DH would have to take over! Good luck
