Night time sippy - Is it essential?

My DH and I are TTC #2 and I want to compeletely wean DS from BF. He only BFs before bed and these posts about bottles and food got me thinking. When I do wean him from his bedtime feeding should I replace it with a sippy? We usually eat dinner around 6-6:30pm and he BFs around 8pm. If I am not home at bedtime DH puts him down without a sippy and he sleeps through the night. How essential is the night time sippy?
Also, any advice on the final wean? I love the time I get to be with him for it but we are trying to TTC#2 and my AF still hasn't returned. I am afraid that when I go to put rock him he will expect to BF. He sometimes runs to his room and stands by the rocker before bed because he knows he gets to nurse. It's going to break my heart if I have to deny him. Any helpful tips?
Thanks!

Re: Night time sippy - Is it essential?

  • If your LO goes to bed fine without a sippy or BFing at bedtime (and he's drinking enough milk during the day), I'd say it's fine to not give a sippy at bedtime.

We did a cup of WCM at bedtime for DD between weaning and potty training, but she didn't drink a lot of WCM during the day, so I wanted to sneak some more in.

Not much advice on the final wean, as DD did that on her own and I'm not there with DS yet. Could you have DH do bedtime for a few days so he doesn't really expect it? Good luck!

  • We replaced the bedtime feeding with a sippy cup of milk. DD took it pretty well and it was a smooth transition.
