Daycare Measles Update

I really need to change daycare centers.  So yesterday the morning news letter said "there is a case of confirmed measles.  The CDC is involved in tracking the outbreak..."  so I freak out (appropriately) all day yesterday, do my crazy Mom calling the pedi routine, and yesterday afternoon there is a letter stating the girl did not have measles and we apologize for any stress this caused.  WTF?  I'm glad there is no measles, but seriously, shouldn't they have gotten their information correct prior to stating confirmed if it wasn't?  Grrrrr.

Re: Daycare Measles Update

  • It is frustrating to get inaccurate information that causes needless worry.  I'm glad it wasn't measles.

Good news though is that they were proactive regarding letting you know the situation.  I would prefer to be informed just in case than them wait a couple of days when it is confirmed.

I 100% agree with this. I am glad that there was no measles outbreak and it's one less thing to worry about.

  • I understand why you're upset. They could've said "suspected" case instead of "confirmed," since it obviously wasn't confirmed. They basically incited hysteria in a bunch of families for no reason. You would've taken the same precautions either way, but you wouldn't have been so panicked! I agree with the others. I'd discuss how they handled the situation with the director if it really bugs you, but I wouldn't find a new daycare unless there were other issues too. And for the record, I work in a preschool and we are careful to get confirmation from a child's pediatrician of any highly contagious or reportable illness before notifying parents. We want to be damn sure we have a confirmed case before notifying hundreds of families.
