Babies: 6 - 9 Months

How much to buy baby clothes?

I had to put away lots of DD clothes because they are too small. What is the recommended amount to buy say 5 slippers, 5 onesies 5 pairs of socks...rule of 5s? They just grow so quickly. Any recommendations?

  • Personally I absolutely have to have enough for a minimum of 1 outfit per day because laundry sucks :)  That stuff is a mix of matched outfits, onesies, pants and one pieces.  I also always invest in a 3 or 5 pack of solid or white long sleeve onesies for layering.

  • Agree w/ PP on packs of white onesies - I found they go with all the pants we have and I can put them under some of the summery clothes that people thought would fit DD next year but she's already in.  I also love the sets that are onesies w/ pants because they're usually interchangeable.  We mainly stick to Carters brand because I found it fits DD the best.  However, since we are in 12 month clothing now at 6 months (due to her length) the next batch of stuff I need to buy I'm going to get tops and pants, not onesies that need to snap closed at the bottom since she grows out of everything lengthwise first.

In terms of how much clothing you need, I think that varies person to person.  My MIL loves to put DD in pretty outfits and take pics so I let her buy those things.  DD usually only wears them once and then we donate them but at least I didn't pay for them.  I'll only buy what I consider practical clothing: pants, onesies, jackets/cardigans now that it's chilly out.  And sleepers - I have 3 cotton and 3 fleece that fit DD right now.  There's always one clean if she has a random diaper blowout in the middle of the night.

  • I have no clue on a number, both of DD's grandmothers are shopping fanatics so she blows the 5 piece rule out of the water.  She has enough clothes to go 2 weeks without even thinking about doing laundry :-\" But I'm a firm believer in having enough clothes that you don't have to scramble in the middle of the night for a new sleeper bc you didn't have a chance to do laundry.  If your able to, have plenty.

  • I just posted this, but I don't like the pants because they make DS look like a grandpa. So I just buy one piece playsuits. We have maybe 10 long-sleeved ones and 5 short sleeved ones, and 6 or s footed sleepers. I try not to go too overboard, but I also buy cute new things from time to time. He'll only be a baby once and it's just fun to dress him in cute stuff.
