April 2014 Moms

I swear this baby wants me to weigh 200lbs!

I am so relieved to have my appetite back and so sorry for you ladies who are still sick.

But seriously, if I don't end up weighing 200lbs + with high blood pressure and gestational diabetes in April I will be amazed. This baby is crushing my normal clean eating lifestyle.

So far today I've had eggs and bacon for breakfast. Breakfast #2 was a bagel with cream cheese. Lunch is now a Reuben with fries and DH informed me he has 4 cider donuts waiting for me at home. Good lord!

Please tell me I am not alone! And STMs, please tell me that my body will crave veggies instead of fries in a few weeks :)

Re: I swear this baby wants me to weigh 200lbs!

  • I am always hungry!!!! I really don't want to look like a whale come April
  • Loading the player...
  • I went from clean eating to only wanting pasta and burgers so I totally understand. I too hope it gets better!
  • I doubt she meant anything bad, @aronie82 ... I'm plus size and I didn't take offense. :) ANYwhos, I think my nugget wants me to gain 50lbs. I hold into water like it's my JOB and that's not helping, sigh... Go away bloat! Want salad and soup and not fries and burgers! I want my choices back, lol.

  • I don't weigh 200 pounds but I do think the post was asstastic.
  • I had a few days where I can seriously eat the whole entire day non stop and barely even gained a pound but it's always off and on depending on how the baby wants me to feel .

  • Ugh I know how you feel! My first pregnancy I was so sick the entire first tri that I lost weight...this time I have discovered as long as I just keep eating like every 2 hours and don't get hungry then I won't feel too sick. The worst part though is that like many other ladies I am only feeling like eating unhealthy foods and carbs. I am 10 weeks and have already gained 5 pounds!
  • I gained 46 lbs with my first...unfortunately my advice is, step away from the fries!

  • See, totally good apology and then in the end you're all "I'm sorry my health and my baby's actually concern me"... Lol and I defended you. Silly me. I gotta stop being nice... Sigh. Anyways!

I weighed 289lbs 2 years ago and lost a shit ton of weight (without surgery!) to have a healthy baby. I got down to 173. My miscarriage in May helped me to gain about 20lbs. I've put on more since then. I'm not unhealthy, and I have a good plan for my eating, but I can't sit and worry about the weight I will inevitably gain... It's pregnancy.

    Sheesh.

  • @aronie82, I am so sorry. You do not need to apologize, reading back on my post I can see where people would be offended. Please do not blame your hormones, I was the idiot.

It's not the number I'm worried about, it's the fact that I am normally very small at 130lbs, I am now 150lbs after 2 losses and am already up 8lbs at almost 12 weeks. And I know plenty of people will get pissed at me worrying about gaining weight at my size, but I worry that if I can't get things under control I'm looking at a 50lb weight gain ontop of the 20lbs i put on over the past year, which is not healthy for anyone given all the potential health issues that can come from such a gain.

thank you ladies for sharing your experiences. I need to replace the bad food with some veggies and fruit as soon as I can stomach them!

I worked my ass off to lose the 40 lbs I gained with my son. Took me 18 months but I did it. It's hard to look at the scale and know its going to he a long road again. Especially since *gasp* I'm close to 200lbs anyway. Doesn't mean I'm not concerned with my health. This is my body, I'm a runner, I eat health and this is where I am. I plan on enjoying this pregnancy and all the donuts this little peanut wants. Personally I would rather have the salad, but when I'm almost in tears bc a donut sounds that good..... A donut I will get!
  • You apology becomes null and void with your bitchy last statement. I was trying to give you the benefit of the doubt but you lost that.
  • Here's what I'll say about gaining weight in pregnancy:
Well I was super fit before my first pregnancy- my husband and I went to the gym, I did elliptical and weight lifting and I was on a woman's soccer team. I got super ill through the first 20 weeks or so then FINALLY started to put on weight. I guess my body was like "hurry gain weight you're pregnant!" I gained half my body weight in that pregnancy- 75lbs. I wasn't laying around eating cheesecake, I made healthy fruit and yogurt smoothies for dinner and would snack on edamame. I swam 3 times a week for an hour until my (normally very low) blood pressure skyrocketed and my dr put me on rest. I swelled up like a balloon then too and my belly was so big I couldn't face forward on the scale any longer (it didn't fit.) It was hard feeling like I was being judged for my weight when I was trying my best to be healthy.
The weight flew off as fast as it went on (at least!) and now I'm a size lower than I was the first time I got pregnant (I'm 5ft 10 and a size 4).
I guess my point is just hope for a healthy pregnancy, try to eat healthy and work out but sometimes it's just out of your control.

  • @porterlove525 I totally get where you are coming from. Last year I worked out 3-4 days a week and ate relatively healthy meals and looked and felt fantastic. I remember my husband saying how great he thought I looked when we went to our first appt back in December. I think I weighed in around 120 (I'm only 5'2"). After m/c #1 and since then, I haven't worked out at all. I didn't gain a ton, maybe 5 lbs, but lost all my stamina and toning. Being on progesterone now has made me so bloated and with the way I've been eating I have already gained about 6 lbs, but I feel stupid at 9 weeks not being able to button the top button on my pants andplusalso my doctor told me I should only gain 20-30 lbs total throughout the pregnancy. The way I am eating and craving nothing but carbs and sweets, I can't help but feel gross and that I should start working out again. Unfortunately with the move that is easier said than done based on where we live (not to mention exhaustion!)
Because I am also a FTM, I don't know a good answer for the craving question, but I am trying to turn over a new leaf and buy more fresh food than packaged. Hopefully it will make me eat healthier if it is around! KWIM? And if nothing else, just breast feed forever and it will melt off. :)

  • I gained 45 pounds with DD. I lost it fairly quickly due to BF and working out. The last ten pounds took about a year to come off and that's about when my hips went back to normal. Well, mostly back to normal. I would definitely try to portion control, though I know that can be hard.

  • I'm still in the first trimester sickness and not able to eat much. I do remember that insatiable hunger from my last pregnancy though. It's like a love hate thing. I would overeat because I was so hungry and then have the worst heartburn and be wishing I could undo it
  • I went to my Dr. appointment yesterday at 10w6d and have already gained 5 lbs. I was really stressed about it, but I just feel so sick that I eat what I want to eat. My midwife wasn't concerned about it.

I'm praying that I start feeling better soon and can get back to my old self who ate really healthy and exercised. Can't wait for the "miracle" 2nd tri everyone is talking about!

  • @porterlove535 I completely and totally understood your question. I'm not one to jump in when things get shaky around here but anyone who is attacking you has no ground to stand on. Maybe giving a specific number may have seemed offensive to some but it is SO OBVIOUS that you were talking about YOURSELF and YOUR WEIGHT. In no way were you insulting others or making them feel like being a certain weight is wrong. You shouldn't need to apologize and you shouldn't feel like an ass or any of the other inappropriate names others are calling you. I'm appalled at how quickly some can just throw friends/fellow bumpers right under the bus and flame them for something that THEY misunderstood and misread. I'm sorry that you are being subjected to that and just to be clear, not all of us act that way.

To answer your question: I'm a FTM so this is my first go at this, but I've heard lots of moms and reputable sources (OB's, Midwives, other experts...) say that once ms goes away, most of us are able to get over the extreme aversions we're feeling in the first trimester. So from that I take that it is usually ok to get whatever you can down during first trimester and then plan on exercising and eating better through the second and third to kind of make up for it :) that's what I plan to do at least! Lol good luck girl! I know it's hard. This baby loves hot wings, pizza, fried foods, mashed potatoes, ice cream... I'm definitely hoping to gain some will power back in the second tri!!!
  • Aside from the weight topic - is anyone else feeling constantly hungry? I feel like I can't keep up feeding this baby growing inside me! Today I ate at 7, 9, 11:30, 1:30 and 3:30. Then got home from work around 5 and was starving again! Very atypical for me.
