Feeling a little Blue...

My DH and I were so set on our little girls name which was Emily Rachel. We were keeping the name a secret until she was going to be born. Now in the last month two fairly close people I know have just had girls and both have been named Emily. So now I feel like it's back to finding a new name. Any body have any ideas?

Re: Feeling a little Blue...

  • Oh sorry that's not cool, I have my heart set on my name also but once in a while I hear one that I like and think I can change it but then again won't because I have been calling her the other name for a while now! If you love the name I would say stay with it!

  • Thanks I posted on the name board will see if anyone has any good ideas. It's a family friend and a friend from school so it's a little too close to home to have 3 Emily's. :-(
  • That would bug me too, what about Rachel Emily instead?
  • I feel your pain. The same thing happened to me...  I received a thank you/birth announcement from a friend and she named her baby Isabella too. It didn't change anything for me, as MH wants to name her after his deceased mom. I just mentioned to her that I had no idea our daughters would be sharing the same name and the reason why I am naming her that.

  • I've been sort of struggling with the same thing this week, just not with other newly named babies. We're team green, and have a couple names for a boy and a girl (we haven't told anyone the names either). Our #1 choice for a boy is Andrew Timothy (my husband's confirmation name and his first name), but we do know a few Andrews (2 members of my bell choir have sons named Andrew, as well as my SIL's boyfriend). But we were planning on calling him Drew, so I figured it would differentiate it enough because no one we know uses that as the nickname. But of course, one of the other members of the bell choir said to me on Sunday "I hope Andrew isn't on your list," since both of the boys named Andrew were there and their moms kept calling them. Ouch. So I've been second guessing it all week. Anyway, I think that I'm still going to stick with it because it's one of the few names that DH and I actually agreed on easily and we have meaning behind it. If you love the name then stick with it, like others have said, there are lots of Emily's in the world and you wouldn't want to look back later and wish that you had kept your first choice.
  • Thanks for all the useful advice, we are thinking about swopping her middle and first name around: Rachel Emily. Then we still get to keep Emily as part of her name.
