I have a goal - who is with me?

My goal this week is to meal plan for a whole month. I started last night and got through 1.5 weeks.  I will have some rotation so I hope to wrap it up in the next couple of days. The goal is to have a meal plan for dinner for a whole month along with a shopping list for each week.  I just know that this will make life easier and less stressful every Sunday trying to come up with what to make for dinner.

Who is with me?

Re: I have a goal - who is with me?

  • I have meal planned for the last year and it has been a life saver.  I can't meal plan a month at a time, but I do it weekly and shop weekly.  I also have a list of meals and rotate through them so that I don't have too much repeat.

Since I'm already meal planning, I'll add that my goal is to cook what I have planned most every night for the month (I'll give myself 1 night a week to be lazy).

  • I agree, meal planning saves so much time and money IMO.  I'm not sure if I can handle doing more than one week though.  Maybe I'll convince DH to try to plan 2 weeks and see what happens

  • I suck at meal planning.  I'm lucky if I leave meat out to defrost the night before.
  • I managed to meal plan in advance for one week and it sure made life easier...but I'm not very good at scheduling time to plan, lol.

  • I meal plan for a month and make weekly shopping trips. It really helps me stay in budget.

  • I have not found meal planning to be a time saver. I seem to spend just as much time in the kitchen, but more of it is at night after the kids are in bed. Maybe because I only shop once a week whether I plan or not? Where is the time saving coming from?

  • So I am sort of. I just saw a group on for $10 for three months worth of "6-o'clock-scramble" which is a recipe planning service. You can select your preferences and their website comes up with 5 recipes per week and a shopping list. I think it also comes with one freezer and one crock pot meal per week. I haven't started it yet though.

Yeah I totally agree.  I have heard of people who meal plan and cook for hours on Sunday to prep for the week. I love my Sundays and I would never in a million years spend it cooking just to have food for the rest of the week.  We usually improvise.  I do admit I should plan ahead a bit more, but I hate crock pot food I think it tastes gross and I don't like freezing meals and reheating too much.
  • I think I just suck at using a slow cooker.  Everything falls apart and tastes like mush by the time I get home.
