Trying to Get Pregnant

CD38 off birth control, 2 neg tests

I know it takes your body time to regulate after coming off of the pill. Before I was on the pill, I had a regular 30/31 day cycle. I've never experienced sore BBs, but a couple weeks off the pill, I noticed they started to feel sore. Maybe tmi here, but they totally changed- nipples permanently poking out, growing "heavier", and just plain sore. Since I've never experienced it, it got my hopes up that maybe I was pg. I've taken 2 tests- both negative (CD 26 & 33). My period is just over a week late according to my calendar.. Has this happened to anyone else? If so, what was your story?

(My DH and I have decided that we aren't going to temp or anything for the first few months and just enjoy my raging sex drive.)

I've been there- took a long time to get normal after birth control. The only thing you can do is chart your BBT to track ovulation, and call you doctor if you go more than 60 days w/o a period. A negative test means not pregnant right now, I would test every week but it's up to you how frequently you want to do that. GL!

ETA honestly, it's less stressful to temp than to try and guess what your body is doing every month.

CD14 and CD21 are both really early days to test even for an average 28 day cycle.  Have you tested since then?

This. Also, since it seems you recently came off BC and may still be regulating then there's no way to know if your period is really late. I'd just keep testing once a week until you get your period. If you hit CD 60 with no period then call your doctor.

     TTC since August 2011, Me = 40, DH = 38
Unexplained IF. Tried Clomid for 3 cycles. All BFNs. BFP 1/6/13. Chemical pregnancy.

Moving on to IVF#1. ER 11/26/13, 16 eggs retreived, 12 mature and all fertilized. 2 blasts transferred on 12/1. All other embies arrested so nothing left to freeze. Beta 12/10 = BFN. IVF #2 March 2014. BFP!!! TEAM BLUE!!!

  • Jefa621: No I haven't tested since then. I was going to wait until Monday.. I'd be 2 weeks late then.

DarcyHermione: We aren't considering temping for a few months since this is our first month TTC.
  • If you have no idea when/if you ovulated and have no chart to show us we really have nothing to offer in terms of advice, other than this is your first cycle off BC and your cycles can be off for a while. For example, my first cycle off was 57 days, next cycle was 32 days, this past cycle was 44 days and now I'm on cycle 4 off BC. Do yourself a favor now and don't expect a normal cycle for a while.
  • The sore boobs and other symptoms are likely due to your body readjusting to regulating its own hormone levels.

On an average 28 day cycle, you'd be ovulating around CD14, so you wasted a test by testing then. If you had ovulated on CD14 and the egg was fertilized, it might not have even implanted by CD21, so that was another waste of a test. If you actually did ovulate on or around CD14, you would turn a test positive by now. Take a test. But just know that a lot of women have phantom pregnancy symptoms when getting off of hormonal birth control. Your body is used to having very regulated hormone levels, and suddenly it is experiencing the normal rise and fall of hormone levels, so it's adjusting to that.

My first cycle off birth control I experienced many of the same things you mentioned. I wasn't pregnant and every test I took confirmed that.

Know that there is no guarantee your cycle will be the same as before you went on BC and if you don't temp then you won't know for sure when to expect your period. Like PPs said - test weekly until a positive test or AF shows or you hit CD60.If you make it to CD60, call the doc.

  • I agree with PP that CD14 and CD21 was WAY too early to take a HPT. That being said, without charting your temps, you have no idea when you ovulated. Your best bet is to continue taking a HPT every week until you reach CD60. If you reach CD60 without a period, call your doctor.
  • This happened to me my first month off BC. My nipples were ridiculously sore, the hot water from the shower hitting them was painful. It was something I was definitely not used to but figured it had to do with going off BC. It turns out that I had O'd right around the time of the soreness, which I would have never guessed had I not been temping.
  • My boobs went up a cup size since coming off BC I thought they were gonna shrink but nope the opposite happened.  Also whenever I'm around O'ing time they get sore and when I'm expecting my period and when I have my period they also tend to be sore.  So yup about half the month I deal with sore boobies!

Uhm, I'm really jealous of this.
  • It was CD 26 & 33.. I first used the dates that I tested, but not the cycle days... Opps!

I had my period, took my last two packs of pills back to back so I wouldnt get my period for my wedding, then should have had a period/withdrawal bleed but didn't for another whole month. So, basically I went for 72 days with no period. And I had every symptom in the book before that period finally came, was convinced I was pregnant. I wasn't. Negative tests do mean not pregnant, you're just noticing all sorts of exaggerated things now that your body is dealing with natural hormones again.

    All ALers welcome!

  • My first cycle off the pill was 47 days. My recent cycle (2nd month off the pill) was 38 days. Starting the journey of TTC really messes with your brain - every symptom or lack of symptoms is a "sign." It may not be fun to accept - but it does take time for your body to regulate. I feel your irritation. Hang in there.
  • Ditto here... Just started my 2nd cycle post-pill. Terrible sore boobs, sensitive nips, fatigue and... Cramping... Lots, for 3 weeks prior to period. I was late for my period too but I shook it out By working out. I even started googling natural ways to induce a menstrual cycle, somehow i think i scared it into showing up ;). I'm sorry, it's annoying and I know you are disappointed. Bc does what it's supposed to do but coming off just sucks, it pisses you off what it does to your body.
