How long do 1st molars take to come in?

At his 1 year appt the pedi said his gums were really swollen and he'd probably be getting his first molars soon. ?I know there is no way of knowing when they'll come but here we are 2 months later and there are no teeth. ?

It seems like his teeth will bother him (drooling, night waking, crying,?biting) and then stop for a week, then will bother him again. ?Did that happen with your DC? ?Do molars generally take a long time to come in? ?

I just hope they decide to come in soon. ?I don't like to see my poor little guy?hurting?:(?

  • Sounds just like Paige's pedi appt.  At one year she said she would get them soon and she didn't get them till about a month ago (on her left side)!  She went back for her 15 mo check up and she told me the bottom molar on the right side was swollen and going to come thru soon and last week the top one broke thru but still no bottom one!  She was a slobber monster over the weekend so I thought for sure it was coming thru but I checked last night and nothing.  They do take time though - well Paige's did anyway!  She had the most pain with molars too!  She didn't seem bothered much by any other teeth.

  • We didn't have trouble w/ molars until Taylor was about 18 months. Then she had trouble eating, drooling, and generally being fussy for almost a month. She didn't have problems every day, but she would go for stretches of 2-3 days of not wanting dinner and being fussy overnight.

  • DS has all of his first year molars, well one is taking its SWEET time to come all the way in. Back in August he had a bruise over his top right molar, you could see the white tooth under the bruise. When I went to the dentist he was with me so I showed it to my dentist and he said it should be coming out soon. Well it took until October for just the front of that tooth to cut through. Then the back tip recently cut through a few weeks ago. Now we are waiting on the mid-section, which is the MOST painful part, to cut through. All of his other molars didn't take this long to come in completely though, just this one.
  • DS JUST had 3 of them pop through within the last 2 weeks.  He is a very late teether though....he didnt get his first tooth until he was almost a year
  • Maya is 15 months and we're still waiting.  She's been a slow teether lately.  She's been biting on her fingers or wanting her paci more often for about 2 months.  At her appt on the 5th, the pedi told us she was really swollen and she still hasn't had anything break through.  She was super fussy for our nanny yesterday and woke up crying this morning.  I hope they come through soon because I can tell she's a little uncomfortable.

  • It took a month between the time when I first noticed DD's bottom gums were swollen and when she actually cut her first molar. Her second bottom molar started getting swollen at the same time -- it's been about 1.5 months now -- and I can feel the bumps on top but it hasn't cut through yet.

It's made for quite a few sleepless nights over the past month. :(
