  • My initial goal was 6 months, but now that time is closely approaching and I don't see myself stopping. Its working for us right now so I will just keep on truckin' until it I'm ready to be done or something changes.

    This exactly for me, too!

  • My original goal was 6 months. Now that we are almost there I am going to keep going. As long as I am able to, I will. I enjoy the time with DS, plus it saves money. It's not as hard as I thought it would be. Pumping may not be fun, and I may hate that part. But breastfeeding is worth it to me!

  • I voted yes with no set time for stopping but I have recently started to offer 1 bottle of formula a day so I can get a break for one feeding.

  • I'm a special snowflake on this one. I EBF for a little over 4 months. Then I started supplementing. As of today she is on 2/3 formula. We still BF during MOTN feeding a and first thing in the AM. I honestly think my supply is on borrowed time and that these days are numbered but we keep plugging. If she starts STTN in the near future that will seal the deal for me. I will miss the special snuggle time but I'm done being married to the pump!

  • My goal was 6 months, I go back to work Oct 4 and thought I'd be done by then but DS has different plans.  I've introduced formula with no problems but he suddenly needs to nurse to fall asleep for naps and nighttime, he hasn't done that since he was a newborn.  So I guess he's not ready which is fine with me.  Unfortunately when I go back to work pumping will be nearly impossible (I teach children with Autism and extreme challenging behavior so most days I get very little break time).  My plan now is to just go as long as I can, if I was staying home it wouldn't be a question mostly because its gotten so much easier over last 2 months.

  • I would love to get to at least a year. However, I went back to work yesterday and pumping at work is very stressful! I am hoping it will get a little easier. Ugh. Work stinks and might throw a wrench in my breastfeeding dreams, haha.

  • My original goal (before I knew anything about anything) was 6 months to a year.

Breastfeeding in and of itself went well for us -- ample supply, strong latch, no issues.

But I had a wrist injury that started to make things really difficult and painful for me, and uncomfortable for LO.  I also started thinking realistically about how hard it would be for me to pump at work (and then need to prep bottles every night and morning for daycare, etc).  At our daycare, formula and food is included in tuition whether we use it or not.  So after EPing for a while, I made the decision to wean him to formula (one bottle a day for week one, two bottles per day for week two, etc).  By the time I went back to work we were using up the freezer stash and a few weeks later he was 100% formula.  Daycare does all the work during the week in terms of prepping / washing bottles (he has his own set at school!), which helps me immensely given my workload + 40 minute commute each direction.

So I EBF for about 3 months, and then supplemented, and then switched.  Everybody is happier this way.  I say do whatever is best for your family -- happy mom= happy baby.

With kid #2, I think we'll try to do it this same way... maybe a little longer assuming my wrist issues clear up (6 months later and I'm still having problems -- they put my IV in wrong during delivery and hit a nerve and caused a bunch of damage -- I'm still in physical therapy!).

This is kind of us too. I ebf for 2 months, hit a nursing strike, supply dropped, now I'm nursing am and pm, pumping at work and supplementing 50 percent. My supply continues to drop despite all efforts and i am done fighting my body. I will continue to nurse first thing in the am but drop pumping. I'm very sad about it but I can't fight my body anymore.

She's a blue fronted amazon. She's fun, but she's super loud with babies and young kids running around the house.

@mittykitty01 Pumping at work is always a huge PITA, but it did get easier for me with time. I have a routine down now so I know exactly what I'm doing. I've gotten more efficient. Also, in the beginning I was always stressed about trying to rush and worried about supply. And that didn't help. Now I am more relaxed about it which helps me get more milk more quickly as well. Hang in there and give it a little time!
