Version procedure

Has anyone had the version procedure done to flip a breech baby? I've tried some natural techniques from spinning babies and she is still breech. My doctor suggested the procedure today but we are still unsure. Just looking for thoughts/opinions

Re: Version procedure

  • I have not had the procedure done, but was about to go for a consultation before my y waters broke and I wound up having baby by cs anyway...

from what I am aware you have the consult first so they can do an in-depth scan to make sure you are a suitable candidate, for example that your placenta isn't in an unsuitable location, baby it's healthy enough etc.

if all off that works, a version it is...there area bunch of semi recent posts from me asking questions.. and YouTube has a bunch of videos.

  • Yesthisiskim posted a very helpful and detailed description of her version. We faced a similar decision and I ultimately decided to forgo the version. It's not a quick, simple procedure and there is a lot involved (IVs, muscle relaxer, constant monitoring for distress, consent for emergency c, etc.). I found researching the procedure and watching videos online to be really informational. The risks are low but I just couldn't get over the fear of potentially putting the baby in distress.

I had DD1 sucessfully flipped with an external version at 37w. This baby was breech from week 34-37 when she flipped on her own with tons of spinning babies inversions.
How far along are you? Sending you lots of flipping baby vibes!!

  • 36 weeks but when/if I have the procedure I'll be like 37.5.

Has your OB given you other options besides 37w? My current OB scheduled my ECV for 39w (another factor in this is that my baby is measuring small - in the 34%tile approx) so that way baby had more time to flip on her own and we didn't have to worry about her having too much room to flip back breech after the ECV.

Honestly, you still have time. As I stated before, I did TONS of Spinning Babies inversions - mostly where I would put my knees on the edge of the couch and lean forwards/downward.

    Here is my ECV story:

  • Thanks for the link to your previous post. I was only given the one option. I think for now I will keep trying inversions and see where we are at next week before I decide. It has been scheduled already so I can cancel if I change my mind.
  • At my 36 week appointment today my baby is still transverse so we are talking about doing one also. I'm going to be trying out spinning babies first.
