FTM Seeking Bottle Advice

I know...it truly depends on the babies but I am just unsure as to what to get to even start! I plan to breast feed as much as possible. From what I have looked at and read I'm thinking about registering for:
Tommee Tippee
Avent Natural
Medela

Do you have any opinions on these there or better suggestions???

Re: FTM Seeking Bottle Advice

  • I breastfed and used Tommee tippee worked great dd had no issues going back and forth. Every baby is different tho

. I will say somewhere about 6-9 months I switched her bottles because she would hold her bottle herself and then decide to push the nipple in and spill milk everywhere.

  • We starts off with tommee tippee and hated them. We had the colic ones and the nipple always inverted itself, so annoying! We switched to born free and they were great. We also had no issues going from bottle to breast. I would recommend registering for more of the smaller sizes than the 9oz. My son rarely took an 8oz bottle because he was on baby food by around 6 months.

  • We BF, but when we use bottles we use Dr Browns. My boys tend to gulp their bottles and the inserts in the Dr Browns help to pace them and reduce the gas. I have a fast flow when I bf and they actually spit up and burp LESS when using Dr Browns.

  • I just recently went through this. My girls learned to take a classic nipple in NICU so a natural style nipple did not work for them. The Dr. Brown's have worked best for them. We tried Playtex Ventair first, but the level 1 flow was too fast. Even though the Dr. Brown's have many pieces they aren't able to gulp as much which keeps them from swallowing a bunch of air. Also, their preemie nipple is a good fit for their little mouths.

  • I used Avent with both of my girls, loved them, and plan on trying them for these twins :)   Good luck!

  • Don't go over board on bottles at first- I had one baby prefer Avent and the other preferred the Playtex drop-ins- this was the guy with reflux.
  • Dr. Brown's were essential for us in less gas and lower spit-ups. They switched back and forth between regular Dr. Brown's bottle nipples, a boob and a nipple shield (one baby) with not many issues.

  • I bf and do 1-2 bottles of formula. We love Dr. Browns and don't mind the pieces. Just get a few of the dishwasher baskets for the parts and a couple of drying racks. Also, the premie size nipples are great and help them to eat slower. Both my twins have taken to all bottles we have tried (also have Medella and avent).
  • I have a ton of experience in daycares, being a nanny, etc and loved using the Dr. Brown bottles but they have sooo many pieces and we don't have a dishwasher! Sooo I'm trying to stay away from lots of parts! The advice all of you have given was very helpful....thank you!

  • You could register for larger packs of all of them just in case your babies are picky. Try out a single or duo pack of each and figure out what they like before committing to a particular type. That way you can use the completion coupon on the bottles no matter which ones they like.

  • We had a few single packs of a few different brands. We tried these and ended up going with the Tommee Tippee bottles. Try out a few to see what your twins like, then you can go buy the bigger packs.
  • I do have a dishwasher and still hand wash all my bottles because the dishwasher doesn't get everything as clean as I'd like, so I wouldn't worry about it, but it is a lot of bottles with twins :)  We use Born Free and I really like them.  But truthfully, none of my kids have been picky about their bottles at all.  The only ones I didn't like were the medela's because the nipples collapsed on us a lot.  But I've used the similac RTF bottles, some kind of playtex angled bottles, the drop-in (which I didn't love either because the latex nipple it came with was floppy and I hate throwing stuff that can be reusable (the drop-in bag) instead away).  I found about 16 bottles in the current size is enough to have on hand once you figure out what you like.

  • With my singleton, I used the playtex vent-aire system and Dr. Browns becuase of the gas bubbles, reflux with him. I have a friend now who has twins the same age as my singleton and she swears by the Podee Baby Feeding System. They look a bit expensive, but she said they were a godsend when she was left alone to bottle feed two babies. It closes securely and the babies suck holds the nipple in their mouth. I'm going to be getting a couple to try them out with our twins.
