Multiples

Honda Odyssey

For those of you with multiples plus 1, do you feel like the cargo room in the back is big enough.  We still use 2 carriages.. bumbleride indie and bumbleride indie twin and I am not sure there is enough room to fit both in the back.  Also if you can fit both how much room is left over for groceries etc?

Thanks...

Re: Honda Odyssey

  • I love our odyssey. So much room. I've not had the twins yet but I can't imagine things not working.

  • I have plenty of room for my city select and all the attachments plus room for some groceries. I also put the groceries on the floor in the main part of the car.
  • There're is a ton of room back there! We packed up for four days at my parents and had room to spare.

  • I like our odyssey but we only take a double with us when we travel. On a regular day , it fits our groceries and a stroller.
  • I have 3 kids plus twins on the way. It has tons of room in the back. We already own a double jogging stroller that stays in the van all the time and we have PLENTY of room for all the groceries it takes to feed all of us. If we have big items such as paper towels and toilet paper those go inside the cabin with us.
  • Isn't the Odyssey the new van with a built in vacuum? That's enough to sell me! :))

  • My Indie Twin fits just fine with the other 1/3 of the trunk left free. No clue if a single stroller would fit there as well, but if so you'd have to sort of drape the groceries over the stroller. I did take out a second row captain seat and often put things (backpacks, sparring gear, groceries) in that section. I do normally use a combi twin sport as it is a lot smaller in the trunk. Definitely a good sized trunk space though!

Yes it is, however what they don't tell you is the vacuum is only available in the touring elite model. I was so excited to test drive this van and when I found out I couldn't get the vacuum (we will have to get the base model if we decide on an odyssey) my irrational pregnant hormones decided that honda tricked me on purpose because they are mean. Now I pretty much direct all my frustrations towards the evil designers at honda!

We just bought a 2007 exl fully loaded with navigation system, leather, DVD, backup camera, sunroof etc. it is in great condition! The vacuum in the new vans would be great, but I wouldn't buy a honda brand new. Hondas are great cars that really hold up and it is easy to plug in a shop vac at home. ;) our next door neighbor with 3 kids (one infant) just traded in their sienna for a 2008 odyssey. Good luck!
  • We haven't had ours long. Just a few weeks but the other day DH and I took it to go shopping for DD1s birthday. We fit a double stroller, a brand new bike, and a ton of groceries in the back. It didn't look like it would all fit, but it's the Mary Poppins bag of cargo spaces. We had plenty of space!

  • If you go look at it at the dealership, bring the stuff you want to store in there full-time and see how it fits.  That will give you a better idea if it'll work out for you.  Happy car shopping!

TTC since May 2006. After 3 failed Clomid cycles, 2 failed Injectibles/IUIs, 2 failed IVFs and 1 failed FET, we moved on to adoption!

Last ditch FET resulted in BFP, and identical twin girls!

  • Great thank you for all of the great responses.  I just need to make a decision on my car.  I don't have to trade mine in, but if I do trade it in, it has to be the perfect vehicle so I just have to look:)

We have a 2008 Chrysler Town & Country and have been very happy with it. Ours has a bench seat in the back and the middle row is a pair of captain's chairs. We keep one of the captain's chairs down in the floor so that the kids in the back row can easily climb into their seats and we can get in to finish buckling them in without having to climb over seats. The back row only has one set of latch/one hook for the top tether so we will probably be moving the seats around a bit once we turn the twins around. In the back we normally have our tandem double stroller (Graco Quattro Tour Duo) folded and on end in the left half of the cargo area and we can fit quite a bit from Costco or Target on the right side. Big things like packages of paper towels or diapers usually go in the cabin with us. We can also put things into the floor underneath of the captain's chair behind the driver's seat if we really buy a lot.

And don't let the pics fool you. It usually isn't anywhere near this clean. ;) We picked up some furniture last weekend and we needed to remove the car seats and fold all of the seats down into the floor to fit it in. The kids haven't had a chance to mess it up yet.

ETA: I know the T&C wasn't the vehicle that you asked about, but I wanted to show you anyway just in case you decide to consider it later.

  • Thank you again for your response.  I did not look at the town and country because it only had one 3rd row tether.  I am finding that although many vans, suvs are intended for many passengers they are not intended for car seat passengers.
  • We had an Odyssey until our #4 turned 1...then we got something bigger. It worked, but it wasn't roomy at all.
