I was just wondering if anyone had heard about this test? My OB mentioned it yesterday as food for thought because it can be performed as early as 9 weeks....They say it is 99% accurate for predicting gender and certain genetic abnormalities.
While I know I am not planning on genetic testing for personal reasons, I am finding out the gender. My question is: do you think it would be less "romantic" to find out gender through a blood test rather than an ultrasound. I want to know asap so that I can start decorating, but it is hard for me to separate from the idea of looking at my baby when I finally find out if it is a he or she.
If you haven't heard of it yet, here is the official site:

Also, if you know of anyone who has found out this way, what did they think of it? Thanks ladies!

Re: Panorama Test - Genetics and Gender?
Well, they test for genetics either way. It is just a personal request between my OB and I that I have that information on a NEED to know basis only. I don't need unnecessary worry
One of the intentions of the test is for gender, as that seems to be a big "selling" point. I don't think that my Dr. withholding the risk rates from me would drive the cost up for anyone, and I was told that insurance covers it.....is that wrong, because if so, that might make my mind up right there
Happy testing!
I would want to know if it is needed information. So it is not a risk rate? That is good information to have....I haven't researched it fully because of my history, I am having a difficult time imagining getting a maybe. But, since it would be a yes or a no, that changes things for me a bit. I didn't find out about my son's Trisomy 21 until he was a toddler, walking and eating, when he had RSV and a difficult time recouping. I could have used that time to prepare. Thank you for the info......
I was thinking of the first trimester screening because they told me that this replaced that. My son was a mosaic, so it is unlikely that we would have another baby with Trisomy 21, I just get nervous about being left to wonder.....it doesn't sound like that would be a problem with this though! My screening with him came back fine, so we were completely blindsided when we found out.....I just don't want to repeat that!
After our low progesterone scare, I just want a happy, healthy pregnancy this time, so I am really trying to avoid stress. Knowing what to expect, however, sounds calming! Thanks so much!

When my doctor pitched it, she sold the gender results instead of the genetic testing. This may be because of my level of nervous regarding these issues. All I know is what I have been told and read on their website. The test is always performed for genetic abnormalities and gender. Always. They won't just do gender. What I mean is that if it was solely for genetics, I don't think that I would have it done in my situation. It isn't that I don't care, because I do. Again, I have history here. Also, as discussed in the thread, it was presented to me as the "new version" of the first trimester screening....a test gives you risk rates instead of concrete data. I like the idea of something definitive.....I just wasn't interested in maybes. Knowing that it isn't a test of odds changes my viewpoint. I apologize for calling you snarky, but I still respectfully disagree. It isn't an abuse of the test. One of the attributes on the panorama website is that it is 99% effective in revealing the gender earlier than US. It is a choice we can make, and they are offering this to women who are not high risk at all....I have a niece with 4 genetically normal babies who is in her mid 20s and they have even offered it to her.
It is clearly being presented in Tennessee as a means to get the gender sooner. They do disclose that this is not the only information you will be tested for. I'm not sure why they are presenting it this way, but I am glad that I posted because I got some great information from kitchencolors about the test that I didn't have before. As long as doctors present the test this way, people will use the test for gender prediction.....because nearly everyone wants to know their baby's sex.
Me!!!
I did something similar through the Medical Genetics Center in Houston with my DS. It was in conjunction with my NT scan and the bloodwork related to that. At the time, you got the free gender blood test in conjunction with the other stuff. So why not find out? The way they did the test that I had was to look at your blood and see if there were only X's or if there was a Y in your blood. If there was a Y, that meant it was a boy. Apparently, by the time a Mother is about 9 or 10 weeks along, she has some of the fetal DNA in her own blood.
For me, I found it plenty romantic because they left the results on a voice system and I checked it and found out before DH...he didn't even know the results were in yet as they had told us it would take a week but they came back in after about 4 or 5 days. So I actually planned a surprise for him and had him do a little scavenger hunt and at the end of it he opened a closet door and a bunch of blue balloons came out and I had a present for him of little boy booties with little golf clubs on them. He didn't know what was up with the scavenger hunt and didn't even know it was the "gender" reveal at the end until he got to it. It may sound silly to some, but it was a special memory for us that we still cherish. He even kept one of the blue balloons.
