Obligatory "My Kid is One today!" post- Birth story and PIP

I typed the birth story for his baby book so it's all cutesy, sorry.

Ethan’s Birth Story

We found out that you were coming in January.  We had decided to try to have another baby and we found out you were coming right away.  It was so early that the doctor wanted me to wait a while before coming in so we would be able to see you on the ultrasound.  We were very happy that you were coming to join our family.  To tell our family and friends that you were coming, your sister wore a t-shirt that said “This princess is going to be a big sister.”  Everyone saw it and got very excited.

My pregnancy with you was a little complicated.  I was diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes and I had to eat a special diet and test my blood 4 times a day to make sure it was ok.  They were also scared that you would get too big and that there would be too much fluid around you, so I had to go to the hospital twice a week for tests and ultrasounds so they could listen to your heartbeat and make sure you were ok.  You were always fine.  I have a heart-shaped uterus and your sister had been on the left side, you were on the right side.  You also kept changing positions a lot and doing lots of flips.  They thought we were going to have to have a c-section to take you out so we scheduled it.  I really didn’t want to have it, but I wanted you to be safe.  They told us your due date was September 27, 2012.

Gemma came a couple of weeks before you were born to stay with Maya in case you came early.  On Monday, September 24th I went to the hospital to have the test so they could listen to your heartbeat and make sure you were ok.  When they did the ultrasound to look at you, they said you were in the right position to be born without surgery!  They called the doctor and he said that they would induce me right away so you could be born naturally.  Daddy rushed to the hospital.

They gave me medicine to start contractions.  We were at the hospital all day waiting for you to come.  We were not sure if you would do it.  Finally it started to work.  I got an epidural and my blood pressure dropped suddenly.  I almost passed out, but the doctors were able to fix it and I was ok.  I kept having to change positions because your heart rate kept dropping.  That was really scary.  I tried to sleep but I couldn’t, there were too many things going on.  Finally, late that night, around 1:30 a.m., the nurse said you were ready and it was time to push.  Br. Berk came and we started pushing.  While we were pushing, the fire alarm started going off!  We decided that it was more important to get you out safe.  Once we found out it was a false alarm, we kept pushing and at 2:11 a.m. on Tuesday, September 25, 2012, you were born.  The dr. put you on my chest and Daddy cut your umbilical cord.  We were very happy you were safe.  You were so handsome.

The doctors and nurses checked you and said you were great.  We named you Ethan Henry.  We stayed at the hospital together for three days.  On the second day you were circumcised.  Your sister, Gemma, OP and Daddy all visited us in the hospital.  You went home in an outfit that Gemma bought for you.  We were so happy to bring you home and finally be a complete family.
