Nursing MoMs

With twins, if you're tandem feeding, do they each just eat on one side? You don't switch sides like you do with a singleton right? Do you switch sides each feeding? A eats left, B eats right. Then next feeding A eats right, B eats left? And how do you do it if you feed them one at a time? One on one side, then the other eats from the other side?

Re: Nursing MoMs

  • I didn't do tandem (couldn't get it to work for me) but I assigned each baby a breast for the day and then had them nurse off of the other side the next day. It worked out really well for us.

  • That is all exactly how I've done it. A on right, b in left, switch next feeding. If feeding one at a time, one eats one side, one the other...no switching mid feed.
This for me too when I was nursing.....except I didn't always pay attention to which baby was on which breast. They more or less alternated, heheh.

  • I had a huge oversupply in the beginning so I just assigned each baby a side.  A on the left, B on the right.  They have been that way since about 7 weeks old.

That's how we do it also. I have an app on my phone that I use to keep track of who fed on what boob.

  • Thank you ladies!

  • In the early days I would rotate the babies after each feeding.  Nowadays, I hardly pay attention to it!
  • The way I do it is each baby stays on one side for a single feeding. Then the next feeding they switch sides. So if K is on the right and A is on the left at the first feeding then K will be on the left and A will be on the right at the next feeding.

  • I'm not even to the point of worrying about this yet, but THANK YOU for asking!  I have been hearing soo much of the "it is just too hard to breastfeed twins, you'll end up on formula".  Very discouraging.  ><
