Isla and Halle have officially been in their helmets for 4 weeks! I wasn't able to get before pics of Halle, she was being sassy, but I did a comparison to see how much change there was in a months time! Can't believe it! As hard as it can be to help them adjust, all I can do is encourage other mommies to just bear with it, it sure does pay off!
Re: Helmet wearers!
OMG that is wonderful! I'm so happy for you and the girls! Her head looks so wonderful!
Jordyn - if you don't mind me asking what was the girls starting CI? I had my son at the cranial facial specialist and his CI is 89. Normal is 71-80 and my insurance will cover the helmet at a CI of 83 with a script from the doctor.
However, the doctor said he won't write the script because it would be cosmetic and not medical and he said it was unethical. I asked why would my insurance cover it at 83 if they didn't feel it was needed. He wouldn't budge....
I called the local orthotic company (who uses StarBand) and am waiting for a call back.
I am so frustrated and worried that I may have to start all over with a new doctor... I want to do the right thing for my LO and feel like I'm not getting anywhere.
And I did compare helmet therapy to braces and the doctor just disagreed with me.
@JordynLeighx3 I just spoke to the doctor on staff at the ortho company and she said that a CI of 89 is mild brachycephaly, but with out facial/head asymmetry is not typically treated.
She told me that 89 is often the goal CI of many of her patients.
She told me that with continued repositioning and LOTS of tummy time I should see additional improvement.
I'm glad I spoke to someone from the ortho company to get another point of view. Many people say the ortho companies tell everyone that their kid needs a helmet.
Did your specialist give you a goal/exit CI?
@mellisad23 - were you told a goal/exit CI?
