So....I've been a little busy since the birth, but I want to introduce
my little one, Joseph Torino! He was born on 9/14 (39 weeks) at 2:08pm,
weighing 7 lbs 14 oz and measuring 21 inches.
Birth story:
On
Friday, 9/13, I was having contractions all day. I could feel they
were different contractions than what I had felt before. I started
timing them....sometimes they were within 6-10 minutes, sometimes they
weren't. I laid down and they kept going, so I was getting excited it
might be the real thing, but then they'd go away. DH and I decided to
go run errands, go for a walk, and just go about our day. We had a nice
dinner, and decided to hit up the Redbox to rent a movie (rented "Now
you See me" in case you wanted to know....it was good!). When I stood
up after the movie (11pm), my water broke. I yelled for DH to get a
towel....he's like "Why???" so I said, "either I just peed myself and
can't stop, or my water broke." BOY that got him moving! Called the
doctor, called my parents, we were heading to the hospital (but not
after DH asked, "do we have time to stop at Redbox to return the movie?
If we're going to be in the hospital for a few days, I don't want to
get charged for the movie.

)
Upon arriving at the hospital
at midnight, I was 4 cm dilated and 90% effaced. But boy, those
contractions are sure different once your water breaks! I was in a LOT
of pain!! REALLY second guessing the med free idea! By 2:30am and 6-7
cm dilated, I asked for the epidural and felt wonderful relief. I was
able to get some rest and it felt great. By 10:30am, I was 10 cm and
the doctor said it was time to push. Unfortunately, because of the
epidural, I couldn't feel what I was doing....so they had to cut back on
the meds, and I was back to lots and lots of pain! I couldn't even
breathe in between the contractions, it hurt so bad. So I pretty much
just kept pushing because the contractions were coming every minute or
so.
Thank goodness I had no idea how long I was pushing (I knew
it was a long time)...the doctor mentioned a few times that she could
see the head, but it was getting more and more swollen the longer I was
pushing. The last time she came in, she said "Okay...you've given it a
good effort...but we're on 3.5 hours of pushing... I think it's time to
meet your baby." I was BEYOND ready for the csection and was so
exhausted from the long night and pushing. It felt like it went quickly
once we we were back there, and the doctor said, "It's a Boy!"
After
birth, he had a tough time latching, and by the time we left the
hospital, he was down 8.5% of his birth weight. Upon working with the
lactation consultants at the hospital, we found out he was "tongue
tied," the frenulum (the thing that connects your tongue to the bottom
of your mouth) was connected all the way to the tip of his tongue....so
he was unable to move his tongue up and down or back and forth. We had a
specialist come to snip the tip, and after a few days of him being sore
(although there are no nerve endings), he's been doing SO much better
and breastfeeding like a champ!
I hope to get better about
keeping up on here, but boy, as a FTM, I guess I was a little more naive
than I thought about how the lack of sleep will get to you! Even
though he is going 3 hours in between feedings, it still takes a lot out
of you.
AND NOW, squishy baby pics!

Re: Little Joey is here! PIP and Birth Story
Sounds like quite an ordeal, but you are really lucky to have found out about the tongue tied business now! And I'm sorry to say, but you are also lucky to get 3 hours between feeds! My first ate every 2 hours for the first 6 months! And it took him an hour and a half at a time in the first few weeks...
By the way, I really laughed about the returning the movie thing - my husband would so say something like that and it sounds like you handled it better than I would, as Id have actually killed him! Ha
Enjoy your little beauty!!
