Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

HELP!! Potty recommendation for BOYS?

Hi everyone,

My DS is 21 months and 31 pounds.  He is showing signs of being ready for potty training.  All the reviews I have been reading about potties get bad reviews from parents of boys over 30 pounds (potty too small), or the splash guard is not effective.

Does anyone have a good potty recommendation for boys?  My son seems scared to sit on the real potty even with the toddler seat on it, so I thought a potty where he could be on the floor would be better.
Help!!
Thank you!

  • I don't have experience, yet.  However, my babysitter has helped potty train LOTS of little boys.  She thinks the little ones are completely unnecessary.  She swears by sitting them backwards on the big potty.  Apparently it makes them lean forward a little so that their penis is pointed down and there are no random sprays.

  • Fisher Price frog potty is what we used with my son and it was great. The front comes up high to be a splash guard. Very inexpensive and it was easy to clean. My son loved it.

  • Also, he was scared of the big potty too. Eventually he came around, but this worked great until then.

  • We use the Baby Bjorn little potty and also the toilet seat insert for DS1 (in the mornings, he prefers the little chair, in the evenings he wants to sit on the big potty). We haven't have issues with splashing with either one.
