We're donating to a public bank. I have to call at 34 weeks and sign up for a kit.

No, but I will allow donation after delayed clamping. The cells are very useful for research purposes, but unless you have,a family history of specific diseases private banking is a waste of $$$
Too expensive. If it were less expensive or we could afford it, I would. I may look into donating it actually! I know they've been using it for a lot of cancer treatments, so I'd love to help someone!
I never even thought about donation. I put no because, like others have said, it's just too expensive for private banking. I'll have to add asking about public donation on my list of questions to ask my doctor at my next appointment! I'd like to do that for research and treatments.
I thought if you did delayed clamping that you COULDN'T donate? I believe they say like 95% of the blood is transferred within 3 minutes, so to those of you donating after delaying clamping, how does that work?
I actually talked with my midwife last week about this and she indicated that she does delayed clamping as a routine basis unless requested otherwise. I've heard about the risk for jaundice, but I thought i read that it wasn't really the case.. i need to go see if I can find those articles now.
We will be donating to a public bank. I am O- so I have always donated my blood when possible in hopes that someone like me with my blood type could get the help they need. I would totally do the same with my cord blood! Plus most people ca not use their own cord blood because it will already have the genetic issues that gave them the problem in the first place.

You can bank and delay clamping. We are. Already spoke to my dr. about it, she says she does it all the time.

this exactly! I'll have to ask what we'd need to do to donate. I'd be willing to do that.

This. My friend's son turned eight in June. When he was seven the cord blood bank called her and told her that her son's donation was a match for a child with leukemia..so cool!
@wedbliss5 My doctor still recommends donating even if we plan to delay clamping for a few reasons.
First of all even if that's your plan it may not be possible to delay clamping. For example, with DS there was meconium in my fluid so they had to clamp immediately to suction him out. If we hadn't already registered by 36 weeks the Bank wouldn't have taken the donation.
Also, even if if there isn't enough for a treatment sample, they can do valuable research on even just a few cells.
So far no and only because my hospital/Dr. Hasn't brought anything up. I will ask next week at my appointment. We will be doing delayed clamping for sure.

Assuming everything goes as planned, we'll be donating.

I voted no. Going to donate it. You needed another option.
