Hi MoMs!
I had been scheduled for a csection on the 7th but it has now been changed to an induction due to the boys being head down and very low (MFM says I'm a really good candidate for a vaginal delivery). I know there are so many risks either way of birthing them...I just feel silly not going for it vaginally since they are head down. My MFM informed me that all the doctors will try and push me to have a csection anyways but they can't make me, unless of fetal distress etc. I'm just wanting to hear your stories... The good, the bad and everything. Please tell me how it went for you & your babies in the process of laboring & delivering. TIA!!!
Re: Tell me your vaginal twin delivery stories.
My birth was not "normal" by any means. Baby A's water broke at 32 weeks. By the time I got to the hospital, my contractions were less than two minutes apart. There wasn't any time for an epidural. I pushed for three minutes for Baby A. Baby B took about ten minutes to move down with a few pushes. They had to break Baby B's water and she came out with three pushes. Keep in mind that they were small (3 lbs 12 oz and 3 lbs 11 oz). Good luck!

A c-section was not at all what I wanted, but the recovery is no where near as bad as I thought. The first two days were brutal, but by the third day I was fully mobile and was back to myself by the end of my hospital stay. Good luck!
Our beautiful babies
They will do this regardless of what position Baby B is in, which I thought was pretty unique!

It's TWINS!
I hemorrhaged after delivery, but that was because I had a retained placenta that had to be removed manually. My OB had already had a talk with me about the possibility of a hemorrhage with a twin delivery so I actually wasn't TOO freaked out. Well, that and all of the drugs the anesthesiologist gave me for pain and to relax me while they were removing the placentas.

7/30/12 - B/G twins born at 33w4d due to PPROM
My water broke at home at 5:30am. I was 36 weeks 6 days. I got to the hospital around 8, got the epidural around noon (I was 6-7cm) and delivered them 20 minutes apart around 2pm. My nurse told me that they rarely have twin deliveries go so smoothly. Recovery-wise, I had a 2nd degree tear and was on vicodin for a couple of weeks afterwards, but a lot of my pain was more related to my ribs and pelvis adjusting to not being pregnant any more.
Don't be afraid to ask for pain meds - they probably won't offer them if you deliver vaginally but they really helped me feel better in those first few weeks.
Good luck!

I was induced at 37w6d. Went in on a Friday morning at 5am, and they basically started me on Pitocin by 9am. ( I was 4cm dilated) My contractions were not strong at all but were 2-3 mins apart. I got the epidural around 11am or so. I was in labor for 12 hours, when they finally decided to break baby A's water. I started pushing around 5:30pm and then they wheeled me over to the OR. Baby A was born at 6:07pm, and Baby B was born 7 mins later! I would do it all over again!
I, like you, was very worried and unsure of what the right thing to do was. I was even going back and forth with the nurses and dr when I arrived at the hospital. I was so nervous about a double whammy! But the OB's I talked to all suggested that I should give it a try and that I was a good candidate, b/c both babies were head down, and I had my singleton successfully via vaginal birth. I guess my advice to you would be to be sure that there is a delivering doctor who is able to do a breech extraction. Some doctors do it, and some don't!
I was terrified of the "double whammy" but my OB was confident I could do both vaginally, and I'm grateful she was patient with my body.
Of course my bleeding would have just been worse if I'd had a cesarean, since I'd still have had the placenta sites and an incision on top of it.

Ps the nurse was awesome with the monitors and made sure we had both heart beats the whole time.
I delivered at 36 and 3. Babies apgars were done in our arms. We left 2 days later. Baby a was the smaller at 5.4 and baby b the boy was 5.10. I did have a second degree tear. Healed up super quickly and awesome.
I had an epidural around 4 cm and was just relaxing in my room waiting for something to happen, when the doctor and four nurses came rushing in. They checked me, said I was ready to go, and wheeled me off to the OR at top speed. Everyone was smiling and really calm, but I got the idea that we had a problem. Turns out Baby B was having decels with my contractions. Baby A was born after just a few pushes. Baby B tried to make a hands-first arrival (think superman) so the doctor reached in and pushed his hands back and pulled him down (I know this sounds awful, but I couldn't feel it at all). One push and Baby B was born, and 100% fine. The guess was that his cord was being compressed during contractions, so once he was outside he was good.
I would definitely opt for a vaginal delivery again.
