SIDS ?

As a FTM, I am super paranoid about SIDS. I know the peak is between 2 and 4 months. Maybe this is a silly question but does anyone know if that means when they turn 4 months or through 4 months?

Re: SIDS ?

  • I heard to six months.. Either way, just be diligent about what you can do to avoid it (back is best, no blankets, etc).

  • I've read that it is most common in the second and third months, so it would be less common once they are four months old.

  • I thought the peak was until 6 months as well, but I'm on a google hiatus, so I can't double check.

This is what I've always heard. Although I don't think I'll ever not worry, even after she turns one.

Ok thanks, that's what I was thinking too. I know the risk really drops after 6 months but I was just trying to figure out if my little guy was past the peak or not!

I googled but the statistics vary between websites. Most say it peeks between 2 & 4 mo but you're not completely in the clear until 1 year and even then there is a risk for SUID. This website doesn't have a whole lot of info but they have some really interesting graphs!!!

  • Lest we all freak out, remember that the SIDS risk is actually incredibly slim, though following the best practices is generally a good idea (i.e. no blankets in the crib, sleeping on back, etc).
