Do you still use sleep sacks?

Just wondering if she can safely stand and walk around the crib without tripping, as long as it's big enough on her (not too short)? I know they have the ones with the holes for feet, but that defeats the purpose for me. She won't keep socks on and I'm worried about her feet being too cold.

Re: Do you still use sleep sacks?

  • I hadn't really thought to use them since DS was walking along furniture. He does keep socks on though so it isn't a problem. I can totally see my DS tripping over it and smacking his face on the crib!!

  • I'd be nervous of the tripping and stuff too.

  • We used them until Max fell back and hit his head.  They make sacks with feet so they can walk, but I must've bought too big of a size because it's way too big and his feet don't stay in the foot holes.  Not sure if that made sense.  Moral of the story?  They make sacks specifically for walkers.

  • We haven't used them since last winter.  I put her in mostly footy pajamas, which solves the sock problem. This winter I may introduce a regular blanket and pillow, but I'm not sure how that will go since she moves all over her crib still and tends to get distracted tossing around anything you put in there.  Right now she only sleeps with her lovie.
  • Yes. He will stand up at the end of the crib and wait for us and can crawl around his crib.

  • We got one of the early walker ones, I hope it works!

  • Yep, we still use sleep sacks every night.  He can stand pretty easily in them and hold onto the crib, but we take it off as soon as we bring him out of his crib for the day.

  • Yes we still use them. It's long enough so she can still roam around in the crib. She stands with it on and plays all around the crib. It hasn't retricted her movement. We haven't had issues of her falling or hitting herself on the crib.
  • I just bought the large size 4 layer a and a sleep sacks. I love them and Ellie sleeps great in them.

  • We still use them too.  No issues with movement or falling.  He is always standing in his crib waiting for us to come get him in the morning.  I don't see us stopping use of them any time soon.

  • Absolutely. We use sleep sacks till 18-24 months. My kids have no trouble walking with them, in their crib.

  • Colin still sleeps in one.  He doesn't ever try to walk around the crib in it though.  I don't see any reason to discontinue it yet.
This.  She never really stands/walks in her crib either she just sleeps, talks to herself or screams to be gotten out.  If that changes we'll reevaluate the sleep sack.

  • We never used them much, but when DD wears one, she is able to stand in it.

  • Audrey still wears them and has no problem walking around in her crib in it.  I like being under a blanket or sheet, so I assume she would too which is why I put her in one.  If she would sleep under a blanket I would do that but she moves to much.

  • Oliver still uses sleepsacs, even for naps at his dayhome.  We use the halo ones, which are fairly thin, and we haven't  had any Issues.  One of my friends used them until well into toddlerhood, around 3 yrs I think.

  • I think I'll give it a try tomorrow night and see how she does. She doesn't really "walk around" her crib, but she definitely stands and scoots along the side when she wakes up. I was hoping that if it's long enough there would still be room for her to move her legs enough without tripping.

She has some PJ's with feet, of course, but I just washed about a dozen pairs of 18 and 24 month PJ's without feet.

  • I have a large and it's about twice the length of her body...LOL. I think that one is a Halo. But I also have a Medium that I think is Summer Infant that isn't quite as long, but she would definitely have room to move (her legs) in. Blankets are futile - she kicks them off within minutes and then usually balls them up and lays ON them. So my option there is laying another blanket over her bottom half every time I check on her.

  • L hasn't worn one since the beginning of summer.

FWIW, my coworker puts her 2 year old in one every night to slow him down. He has been in a toddler bed since 11 months since he is a climber and the sleep sack keeps him from climbing as much.

  • We have the ones with foot holes. I didn't use any this summer, but now we are using them because it's chilly at night.

I'd planned to use them this winter because DS totally fails at blankets. I've got one on him tonight to see how it goes but we've gone without most of the summer.

  • I live in Atlanta and I have a friend who puts her 3 year old in a sleep sack still. I think its a bit odd, but apparently it works for them.

  • We've never used one.

But for the sock problem, we use Sock Ons. They're on Amazon. I just put them over his socks when he goes to bed and he can't pull them off or kick them off. Problem solved.

  • huh. I didn't even know they made them this big.  Lo hasn't used oen since probably February or March.  She's in footed jams with a blanket.
I love GroBags, they go up to 36 months. A lot of the European sleep sacks go up to 36 months and make nice thick sacks that are more like sleeping under a comforter.

  • We don't use them but never did much after swaddling. We do fleece jammies with feet. Once it is a little cooler I might add a onesie under it.

I also go in and put a blanket over them once they fall asleep. It usually lasts most of the night that way.

  • So, are kids that are sleeping with a blanket actually keeping them on?

Kate just tosses hers, and then has no way of pulling back onto herself. I tried sleeping with the exact same amount of clothing as Kate on night, with no blanket and I was freezing, even though our house was at 71. I'll be giving the sleep sacks a try again this fall/winter!

  • Keagan still doesn't sleep with blankets on.  I've resorted to keeping our house warmer at night.  They both do fleece pajamas.  I will add a blanket to Colby's crib in a couple of months.

  • Like I said, blankets are useless for us. It lasts a maximum of 30 - 60 minutes when she first falls asleep. Then she hugs it and lays ON it, so that's the end of that. We have an old house and there is no such thing as a "comfortable temp" in the upstairs bedrooms. When the heat is up too high it's sweltering, so I'd prefer it be a little on the cool side and use the sleep sack if it works for her.

  • I have been using the Early Walker sleep sack lately, as it's gotten chilly here. So far it's working well. DD sleeps like a maniac, so a blanket just won't work for her. And she is up and walking around her crib, so I could't use the regular sleep sack.

We're doing fleece footed PJs this year with a light blanket if need be. We did a fleece sleepsack with a onesie underneath last winter, so I'm thinking what we have planned should work just as well.
This is what we're doing too.

Add us to the list. Both boys love their sleep sacks, walk in them find and don't trip.
