I'm new to the DC game, DD has only been going for a few months now. Are we supposed to buy gifts for the teachers for Christmas? Room transitions, etc? Is it just a nice gesture but not expected? Am I supposed to get gifts for the director too?
We just moved from a DCP to a preschool/ center. I plan to get her main teacher a gift and bring an edible group gift. I was thinking coffee, bagels, fruit/cookie/ brownie platters.
Nice gesture, not required/expected but you'll probably find most ppl do it- though both daycares I've gone to parents are generally pretty subtle about it, except maybe during teacher appreciation week when it is probably more of a norm. I give our teachers a gift at the holidays in December, Valentine's Day (small), teacher appreciation week & room transitions. However, now that my kids are 4, they transition rooms in late May, right after teacher appreciation, so I have started giving a little more during that time (like a couple different things during the week) and stopped the transition gifts. Outside of teacher appreciation week small items, I always give gift cards- mostly to Target but if I know the teachers are STarbucks fans I give that, or maybe B&N.
I also try to do something edible for the whole staff (or at least the front desk/director/cafeteria/etc non teachers) around the holidays- I prefer to do it after xmas b/c I think they get inundated w/ treats in the week or two before. I really like doing a bagel tray (at my last DC bc/ the bagel place was nearby) but it needs to get there so early & I don't have any bagel places near me that I could get over to them to get it & then get it to DC by 7am!
I always do a holiday gift typically a gift card. I have done transition gifts in the past since DS just transitioned right after teacher appreciation week. I don't give anything to the director.
I do gifts for the room teachers- a gift card to Target and a small chocolate treat, and I usually e bring homemade gifts cookies/treats for the rest and set up a tray in the staff workroom/lounge.
I may do something for director this year because she came in last December and has worked REALLY hard to make the place run better and smoother.
