Clothes question for toddler moms - particularly skinny ones (martinimomma)

DS is 23 months and weighs about 24 lbs. He's thin but getting taller...and hence a clothing quandary. His pants specifically. He fits in the waist of 12-18 month pants most brands, but they are all too short. We just went with it for the summer but as the weather turns colder this has to change. So -- what brands in your experience work best for slender toddlers? Even pants with the adjustable waist in Carter's are way too big in the 18 month size, and I have yet to see a toddler "belt"for non-dress wear. Sweats are fine but we need jeans etc for fall. Thanks for any ideas.

  • DS is pretty thin too. Children's Place has adjustable waist starting at size 2T. They also have different cuts for boys which helps. Boot cut is more fitted than relaxed. Like PP said Gap are adjustable...we do those too.

Cherokee at Target are adjustable too, but make sure you get 2T and not 24 months. The measurements are the same but the 24 month size will not adjust.

Avoid Gymboree...their clothes are too wide for both of my boys. :(

  • I do not have a toddler, so I don't have any first hand experience with this issue. But I do remember seeing this handy little invention on babysteals.com that acts kind of like a toddler belt, called Dapper Snappers. Here is a link to the archived babysteals page: https://baby.steals.com/daily/deal/id/3006322/baby-toddler-clothing You have to scroll down quite a bit to read the description and there's a video as well. They have a website too.

    Hope this helps!

  • The pants at Children's Place seem to run small (waist wise, not length wise).  DS is wearing the 18-24 month pants which are wayyy too long on him (he's 17 months) but they fit perfectly in the waist now.  And he's pretty skinny...The 18 month pants he has from every other store need to be folded at the waist because there's so much extra room (Old Navy 12-18 months are big, Kohl's 18 months are big, Target's 18 months are big...so I feel like for 17 months he is pretty skinny but then the 18-24 month stuff from Children's Place are almost too tight!) HTH!

  • D is pretty much built how you described G.  He'll be 2 this weekend (OMG!) and was 25lb on the nose at his (slightly early bc of our move) 2 year appt.  35" tall.

I think he has a pair of Gap/ON pants and a few pairs of Carters/Osh Kosh jeans.  All with adjustable waists.  He's in the 24 month stuff and the waist thing is cranked way the hell in tight.

I feel you with this predicament.  I won't even look at jeans that don't have adjustable waists anymore.

  • Old Navy and Gap. Gap has adjustable waist but I've noticed old navy jeans are slimmer over all and fit the best. I know they are the same company but I've had better luck with old navy. One of my favorite pair of Gap jeans have elastic underneath the jean on top which helps stay on him as well. Children's place hasn't worked for me but I know every child is different. Here is a picture of the Gap jeans.

  • Thanks Ladies! I've ordered a dapper snapper and will stay focused on Gap or old navy for pants.
