Night light

LO's room is pitch black. Last night, I put a night light in his room figuring he'd like that better. It wasn't too bright or anything (at least I thought). He's been STTN but last night/this morning, he woke up at 4:00 & didn't go back down until after 5:00. We ended up taking the night light out of his room because that's the only thing we changed.

So my question.. Is your LO's room pitch black or do you keep a night light on? I feel bad because it's so dark in there!

We keep it as dark as possible. It helps reinforce that it is sleep time. I read some where that they don't develop the fear of the dark until much later, like around 2 I think it said. If he STTN he probably does not even notice it is dark!

We have a night light because I need it when we go in at night. Its not bright, and its always been there. I make sure the blinds are always closed though.

SS also leaves the bathroom light on, which is on the hallway with her room, so sometimes there is an additional light. But I'll shut her door some if I think its going to bother her.

We have a nightlight so we can see. I read recently that red light doesn't disrupt sleep like regular light or blue light does. Coincidentally our nl can change between blue, green, or red light. It also has a setting where it will cycle through the colors constantly. We've kept it on red since I figured out it wasn't as bright around 3 months. Doesn't seem to bother her at all and I can see to put her down in the crib.

He has always had a night light in his room. In addition to the little light on his humidifier (which is actually pretty bright) and the outside light coming through the blinds of both windows. It's still dark, but not pitch black. He'll sleep with lights on though, so I don't think it matters.

we recently put one in bc we moved and we thought she'd wake up feeling disoriented (well my MIL did) and I also started using that turtle star light for fun but it says 3 yrs and up...not sure why

I bought a blue canary night light from Thinkgeek when I was pregnant. It seemed like such a great idea. It so utterly satisfies my inner novelty song geek, but it casts virtually no light. This didn't matter until recently. DD now gets up and looks for us a couple of times a night - well, sleep looks...so we keep one of our lamps on while we await the arrival of a new, albeit less infamous, night light. I ordered this glowing, rainbow hippo thing. It's reviewed well. I'll let you know how it works out.

I should say, in case it isn't clear, we are in a tiny apartment. We all sleep in the same room.

We have a night light in LOs room that we keep on while we feed her and put her to bed but we switch it off when we leave her room so she sleeps in pitch black. We also use the night light if we have to go in her room during the night.

dark. If there is any light and he tosses around, he'll wake up.

There has been a night light in N's room right from the beginning.

It's there for me to see when I go in to feed him MOTN.

It's not super bright and I can aim it different ways for more or less light.

I don't think it wakes him.

But, if you hadn't been using one before, then maybe he has been waking up, and with it dark, just went back to sleep, but with the light he is confused, so wakes up more?

B's sound machine has a little blue light on top. I've always kept it on at night, but it's more for me to be able to see if he wakes on the MOTN.

Makes me feel better seeing these responses. I just felt like if I did need to go in there at night for whatever reason, I couldn't see at all. I'm going to not put it in there... At least it was cheap! Thanks y'all.

Nope. Dark dark dark. We had him at my parents and he was having the hardest time sleeping, turned out, it was the nightlight that was in there. We took that out, and he went right to sleep!
