Shoes for bebes

What do you have your little ones in?  Soft soled or hard soled?  DD has been walking for about a month (with a few spills here and there), so we took her to Stride Rite yesterday for a fitting and for shoes.  They recommended the Stage 3 walker shoes that have a harder sole, but I'm wondering if she needs to be in the Stage 2 softer-soled shoes.

This is what we got her yesterday:

This is a Stage 2 shoe that I think she should be in...?

Re: Shoes for bebes

  • When J got fitted at stride rite around 9 mon, he had just started taking steps and they recommended the stage 2 soft rubber soles.

I absolutely love them and he just grew out of his original ones, so I bought a bigger size. I don't see a reason to move to a harder sole just yet.

  • We have him in stage 2's right now. I can't wait until he starts walking better so we can buy less expensive shoes, like we do for DS1. For DS1, we buy him New Balance shoes, and they are buy one get one 1/2 off at the local store.

  • We bought new balances last time we went shopping. Drake is walking and can walk in them pretty well. Bentley just gets mad.

  • I would say stage 2, and only when you're out and about.  Otherwise barefoot is best :)  Once she has the walking thing completely mastered, I would say hard soled would be okay.

  • Ds just got his first pair of real shoes two weeks ago. He was put in stage two but he hasn't mastered walking and is still taking lots of stumbles.
  • We just started having DD wear shoes more often now that it is getting colder out. She has a couple pairs of soft soled shoes and a couple pairs of harder soled shoes. She does okay in either kind really.

  • We have stage 2, but I am obsessed with these little shoes called Skidders. They have a softish rubber sole with grippers on the bottom and are perfect for this time of year. They have a soft, cloth top that slides over her foot and they are indoor/outdoor and machine washable. I have some that go over her ankle and a Mary Jane style. I leave her barefoot when she's inside but I love these for walks when she's in the stroller, transporting her to the sitter's, and shopping when she's in the cart. Sorry I don't have a link, but I am on my husband's Mac and I don't know how to do it on here.

Ugh...I hated the skidders. The little tab that goes over the toe just wasn't sufficient for holding ds's toes in. Maybe it's because he has long toes, but he always managed to get his toes over the top of it and would then proceed to trip everywhere.

  • DS has two pair of hard soled shoes - a pair of hand-me-down Stride Rite early walker shoes and a pair of See Kai Run's. He's doing pretty well in them.
  • We just had H fitted 2 weeks ago and he had just started "walking" a few days before. They recommended the stage 2 shoes and I love them!! He's starting to get more comfortable with them, he still stumbles and falls often so I can't imagine putting him in the hard sole ones any time soon.

    06/10 mmc@ 10 weeks: 03/11 mc @ 8 weeks due to blighted ovum.
  • DD's been walking for about a month.  We had her in the Robeez for the longest time.  But I really only put them on her when we'd go out so that I wouldn't look like a hillbillie!  We got DD measured at StrideRight about 2 weeks ago and they suggested either the stage 2 or 3.  I decided to go with the stage 2 because she's been walking for such a short period of time, I wanted her to have the flexibility of the softer soles.  She's adjusted to them pretty well.

I haven't gone all out and gotten her a bunch of shoes yet, but I plan on keeping her in the solfter soled ones for a bit.
