Oh, Kanye. I disagree with mbenit4. I think there is such a thing as too much ego, and Kanye definitely has that problem.
Personally, I believe he is a very, very talented artist, but extreme self absorption is a big turn off for me and I don't really listen to his music because of it.
Yeezus, baby! I don't care if he's a narcissist asswipe-- he's an incredible talent, and he puts on an amazing show. I saw him live, and he rocked my fucking socks off.

Ain't nobody denying his talent (well, at least people who dig his style of music), but dude is a narcissist. At least the persona he presents to the public is.
Although I concede his talent and definitely enjoy some of his shit, there are FAR BETTER rappers in the game right now. Sorry, Kanye. But you actually aren't the best.
I think I may need to introduce some new rap to those who think Kanye is God's gift. The best out there? Not even close, man.
And narcissistic asswipes NEVER get a pass in my book. I also won't be listening to that fuckwad Chris Brown.
Seriously, guise. I saw him in 2008, and his performance was amazing. He went on for over 2.5 hours. He was still performing when my gf and I left. We only left, because half of Iowa was under water that night. Rihanna also performed that night, and she sucked.

So it sounds like his comment was meant to be contemporary, not "of all time". Rock is currently struggling a bit. There are some dinosaurs like U2 and bands I liked as a teen roaming the earth. But can anyone here besides Sookie name the frontmen for bands like Arcade Fire or The Strokes? I can name Jack White, but I have a hard time saying he is bigger than Kanye right now.
But yeah, Kanye isn't rock.
-My son was born in April 2012. He pretty much rules.
I saw Frank Zappa in concert in Prague. It was an unbelievable concert but even that I couldn't get too worked up about. All Kanye does is hold a microphone. It's hard for me to take him seriously.
I'd say he does more than that...

Oh and Kanye is the shit. I've said it before, but if you listen to his lyrics, he is really self-aware. He definitely knows he has flaws and raps about. He thinks he's the shit, though, when it comes to his talent because he is.

Ok, take for example Sonic Youth. I could neeeeever get into them. They are not my jam.
Do I then declare they suck and are overrated?
Nope. I respect their work even if I don't dig.
Kanye is a douche, but his work is excellent.
This is exactly how I feel about DMB. They had an immense talent and really jived together as a band, but I just could never get it up for them.

I feel the same about Radiohead (amazing band, but I change the channel when it comes on.)
Thank you!
