1st Birthday and Christmas in 3 months!

For those who have had their party already do you feel somewhat limited now for the holidays because your child received so many gifts for the 1st Birthday? Many of the things I had in mind to purchase he received ( FP laugh and learn crawl around car, big hug elmo, little people toys, fall/winter clothes, winter coat etc.). My mom suggested I re-gift to him for the holidays but I feel a bit funny about that. What are you all doing?

Re: 1st Birthday and Christmas in 3 months!

  • If he doesn't need anything big at Christmas, I wouldn't get anything big. You can get away pretty easily when they're this small. Think books, pajamas, a cute hat, etc.

  • My oldest son has his birthday in October. In the beginning we had the same problem. Too many gifts for his birthday. Well, Christmas came around and we still found plenty of stuff to buy him. Really way too much. We are better now. We only got Sean and will only get Ethan one present for their birthdays (they get plenty from other family members). Then we still have things they wished for that can be from us/Santa at Christmas.

I wouldn't regift, but I know people who would. If you aren't comfortable with it, just find a few small things to wrap up. Books, pajamas, a new outfit...

  • Haha, well, we're the awful parents that didn't get her a birthday gift, so not an issue for us. I've got a running wishlist of things we like for her, so I'll probably get something small for Christmas. We've got a lot of stacking toys, push toys, little animals, stuffed animals, books, etc on her list now, so I'm sure we'll have some options when the time comes. FWIW I might be in the minority, because I'm not a huge fan of the bigger toys for space reasons, so we didn't/won't get any of those (with the exception of a rocking horse, which I think MIL is getting her for Christmas).

We got them a small set of pots and pans to go with their kitchen that my parents got them. So nothing big here either!

I think that while they are this small and don't know the difference I will just hold off on big gifts and get them things as they need them.

I will say, play kitchen IS on my list... :)

I remember my SIL saying that she got to the end of one Christmas present opening extravaganza and her daughter turned to her and said, "Is this it?" It's definitely tempered my desire to buy Penny all the things.

  • DS got far more toys at his birthday then we were expecting and I have no doubt Christmas will be the same, we have decided to get him his Christmas Eve PJs and book (our tradition), a small toy for his stocking and one under the tree item....the money we won't be spending on gifts we are going to use to take him on a fun overnight trip in the spring, we'd rather create memories than more clutter!

  • We do one main present from Santa and one from us and then a few little things for stocking. I don't think you will have any problem coming up with something closer to time. My oldest's birthday is in December and we still figure it out.

Think about something he will want for spring. I suggested a balance bike in a previous thread. My son got his when he was 17 months and loved it from day one. I put the one year old on it this weekend and he had a blast. He will be using it on warm days this winter and all spring/summer.

  • 3 months is a lot of time to come across new things LO may want or need, lol.
My son's bday is in December & we still manage to find stuff to give him for both occasions.

I don't think regifting at this age is a big deal b/c they don't know the difference.

Putting money into savings is always a good idea, too.

  • I actually bought this today: https://kids.woot.com/offers/circle-play-center-7.  We wanted to get something for the new play room that would keep her occupied if we're both in there doing something, and then I'll get her PJs to go with the Tickle Monster book @hmp1 recommended to me a few months back. :-)
