LO turned 10 months today, and I am committed to getting this baby to STTN! So I have a question for those that have babies that STTN (which is everyone else, I am sure!), how long before you put your LO to bed is their last feeding? I think LO has a strong food- sleep association and I read something that says the last feeding should we at least 20 mins before they go to bed. I am looking for the SECRET to make him STTN. HELP.
Re: Anyone else still not STTN and a question for those that are.
Me three.
Bedtime is 7-7:30pm. He sleeps until 6:30-7am.

Some nights he does, and some nights not. The longest ever was 8 hours. Last night was:
9:00 - bed
3:30 - eat
5:30 - cried a bit, but went back to sleep on his own
7:00 - awake
If you find a magic solution that doesn't involve Benadryl, please let me know.
This is us, too.
I can't remember if you've attempted sleep training or not, but Ferber was the only secret I ever found. Until they can settle themselves back down to sleep, there will be no STTN.

I can put him down awake and he will fall asleep for naps and for bedtime with some crying (3-5 mins). In the middle of the night, he will only go back to sleep if I nurse him. I have tried everything else in the MOTN and nothing works. I attempted to do CIO for MOTN waking . . . but I couldn't deal . . . he was up for like two hours, so I caved. My new plan is to move up the feeding before bed to make sure there is no association and cut back the time in the MOTN until hopefully he gives it up. Ugh . . . I am tired.
All of this said - it is really hard for me to judge. She has had a really rough month, first the kidney infection, then a cold and now the teeth are cutting. In anycase, if you want to know that you are not alone, I'm here to tell you you have company.
my LO doesn't sleep through the night either. There was a glimmer of hope a few weeks ago where she would sleep until 5am, and even STTN twice, but then she regressed and is getting up to eat usually twice now-- about midnight and 5am. She falls asleep fine at bedtime and naps so it isn't an association issue-- she has gotten used to eating during the night-- she eats the most in the MOTN feedings. To answer your question, she eats solids at 5:30, then nurses at 7, then brushes teeth, gets into PJs, reads story and goes down to sleep around 7:15
I don't think there is a magical secret, but I think we are going to try to time her MOTN nursing sessions and drop them one at a time by reducing the length of time she nurses-- I hope that will be the easiest way to train her to take her calories in at other times of the day, and also the gentlest way on my milk supply to adjust. But we haven't started yet-- I am not a logical or disciplined thinker when she is screaming her head off in the MOTN and have been grumpily caving lately.
Do you mean cutting back MOTN feeding time? If so, that was our biggest issue, and Ferber was really helpful with it. F was up wanting to eat all night long, I think he was eating like 12oz over the course of the night for a while. So, I followed the plan in the book for cutting out night feedings before we did the CIO part. He got down to just eating 3oz. once at like 3am-ish, and then just dropped it on his own around 6mo. HTH!
