6 week appt- have to bring the baby

Hi all,
I have my 6 week follow up with the gyno today and I have nobody to stay with my son.  I am a FTM so forgive me if this is a dumb question, but do I just carry the car seat in OR can I bring my whole stroller?  It is a big building and quite a walk with the car seat...I just don't want to look like an idiot if I come in with a stroller if that is not the normal protocol..

Re: 6 week appt- have to bring the baby

  • Honey...don't mind people. Do what's best for you. Take your stroller if its more comfortable for you . I have learnt to do what I prefer and not what other people think. Remember they will always have an opinion :)

  • Mine isn't a long walk so I just carried the carseat, but I've seen other moms with their stroller, particularly if they have to bring older children along to appointments. I think it would be just fine. I ended up having to take DS out of his seat in the waiting room and was then scrambling with baby, carseat, and diaper bag when they called my name!
  • I've seen people bring the stroller in and I've seen people bring just the car seat in so either way you won't look like a weirdo or anything haha if you feel like it's too much to carry that far bring a stroller. My OB's rooms are extremely small so I'm just bringing the car seat in. Good luck!

  • I bring my stroller if my mom comes to watch LO and say hi to our doc. If I were solo it would have to be the carrier because the exam rooms are TINY!!
  • I will prob bring the snap and go and then leave it in the waiting room and just bring back the seat once we are there as the rooms are tiny.

My doctor reminds me when she discharges from the hospital that she wants to see the baby at 6 weeks and not to think about leaving her at home with a sitter. Ha! She is kidding of course but you can tell she is more serious than not. She looks forward to the baby appts I think. Lol.

  • I was instructed to bring Lucas because the staff wanted to meet him. I brought him in the stroller. When my incision got infected with Alexis, I brought her with me in the stroller.

  • I'm planning on bringing the stroller. I'm going straight to a new mom support group from my appt that's within the hospital complex (my doc's office is in the complex).

  • My LO was awake, so I didn't even bother bringing the carseat, I took him out if the carseat and put him in the ergo. Also my dr office is cramped and narrow hallways. It was fine. The dr just has you hold LO on your chest during exam. Nbd :)

  • I use the stroller - the walk from the house to the car is about as far as I can carry the seat.

Also,  I always saw a 6 week old with mom in the waiting room at my prenatal appts - I wouldn't even think to NOT bring baby with me.

  • I brought all the little one with me to mine. The office staff and nurses ask when I make the appointments. Usually there is one or two nurses that hold/watch the girls while I have my check up.
My ob wants to see the baby too.
Take the stroller if it helps you

  • I would probably bring my stroller because my OB is at Kaiser, and that particular facility is huge! I have seen Mom's do both, but I agree with previous posts, do what works for you and don't worry about everyone else!

  • Just wanted to chime in. I just brought in my car seat, but wished I took the stroller. Those seats are so heavy. I have also seen moms do both.

  • I also took the car seat but really wished I would have gone with the stroller instead. Even a short walk seems like miles with that heavy seat. I'm sure people will always judge your (general "you", not you specifically) parenting decisions, so don't start worrying about it now! :)

  • I just took the car seat. I'm sure either would be fine.
  • I'm bringing the stroller. I'm still having difficulty lifting really heavy things so carrying the carseat for long periods of time can be painful.

  • I'm so glad this question was asked because I've been semi stressing over this as well. I think I'll take the stroller to click the carseat into. It's a far walk from parking lot to building.

  • I'd do the stroller. You can put your boppy & bag in it. Hopefully baby stays asleep the entire visit.

Also, lol @protocol. Girl, you do what maintains your sanity, & gets you from point A to point B without breaking something or causing tears. That's protocol! ;)

  • I want to bitch slap the fool that would judge you for bringing the stroller. Just putting that out there if it were to happen...

  • I wouldn't worry about what people think. Bring the stroller, car seat, or baby carrier into the office -whatever is best for you and LO.

I don't have the ERGO yet. I had a CS, so at my appointment, I will be bringing in the stroller. The car seat will be heavy with my little guy in it.
