Another induction post

I'll be 37 weeks tomorrow. Yesterday I went for a check up and my OB couldn't see me right away so I met his NP. She checked me and asked how I was feeling and said "we can induce in two more weeks if you'd like" I politely declined and told her I'd rather let the baby come when she's ready.

She says "well you just aren't tired of being pregnant yet. When you get there you will change your mind"

Really?

  • Cunt Punch. Bad Doctor.
  • You would be surprised how many people we induce on a daily basis just because... For 'social' reasons... And for TOBP (tired of being pregnant)

The best I've ever heard was when I asked a patient why she was being induced, her answer "my brothers wedding is next weekend and if I'm not shit canned- I don't know how I'm going to get through it"

    Really?!?!

Anyways. Good for you for advocating for yourself!

  • Why are these doctors so induction happy? It is so frustrating.

  • Is this a new emerging trend? Out of the 6 obs at the practice I go to, not one has mentioned induction, even with my recent BP issues they are avoiding it unless it is absolutely necessary.

  • I'm one who is considering it.  Why... we are moving to Alaska over Thanksgiving (military).  I'm due the 25th of October.  We are required to have a government passport for all family members including the baby to travel.  It takes 4-6 weeks.  Otherwise we can't leave with MH.  So, yes, I'm considering inducing on the 21st to give her the most time to grow but also the most time to get what we need to move.  Also this is #3.  I was induced twice before because those turkeys never came out.  Even with my water breaking with DD I never contracted or progressed on my own.  So I'm pretty sure it will come down to an induction this time around anyway.

Although the drunk at the wedding comment did make me laugh.

  • Oh and the passport thing is totally dumb and a waste of time and money.  We're going from a US state to another one.  But if we ever had to drive out of AK we'd have to drive through Canada and that's why.

  • I had the same conversation with my doctor. He hasn't brought it up again. We'll see what he says this week.

  • I've been told I may be induced due to GD, but never for convenience. That's odd.

  • I audibly sighed when I read that.  I hate drs like that.  :/

To be fair, it was a nurse practitioner, not a doctor. And she probably offers to everyone, but it doesn't sound like she was suggesting it. Just noting that it was a possibility. If you want to wait, more power to you, and it sounds like your choice will be honored, just like those who choose to induce at 39 weeks.

I don't get inductions, but when I tell people that I went 5 days over my due date last time, people judged me for that. So, I make it a habit to just do what I think is best for me and my baby and let others do the same! :)

Aha! That's how I should handle my sister's wedding! Get induced and then get drunk! Damn! Why didn't I think of that . . . ?

  • It really surprises me that so many drs are even mentioning it

  • My doc won't discuss it at all until I'm over my EDD which will be at my next appointment. Granted, she's the one checking my cervix every week and if it's not favorable yet (which it's not), what's the point? I went this morning. I'm due on Saturday. She said she's certain this baby is content and will not be here early so she'll "see me next week!" when I'm 40 weeks 3 days.

I'm all for letting LO come when she's ready... but I would be lying if I said I didn't get in my car and cry after the appointment because I'm THAT over being pregnant and uncomfortable. And my dad telling me that "it feels like a good week to become a grandparent" is just adding pressure.

Only upside - I'm excited to be an October mom!!

  • My dr has never mention induction except for alluding to it when he says we won't let you got two weeks pass you EDD but other than that he just like when the baby comes we'll be ready to deliver. I'm guess that drs are mentioning inductions more because of more ppl are wanting to do them because they are tired of being pregnant. I guess they are trying to let you know you have options if that's what you want.

Kids under 16 don't need a passport to travel with their parents through Canada... Just a birth certificate! Just a FYI!

  • Military kids do :(. It's on our orders. Yes stupid and a total waste of money but required by the US government for those on military move orders. Trust me. I've questioned this a thousand times.

You can also get a rush passport and not have to wait 4-6 weeks.
  • My doctor has made no mention of an induction at any of my appointments and I haven't brought it up.

My next appt (if needed) is at 40 weeks and 2 days.  They will do a nst then and maybe talk induction?  I don't really know.
