Inducing Labor Concerns!

Today I'm 38 weeks & 6 days & had my OB appt. So my doc talked to me about not going pver 40 wks. Apparently, he had a complication with one of his other patients that developed preeclampsia like the last week of her pregnancy and had to be induced. The risks of going over 40 weeks increase so he suggested inducing labor next week when ill be 39 weeks but I want to hold off til my due date (Oct 3). That's if my baby boy doesn't come before! But I'm really scared of inducing labor, I hate having needles in my veins & all the drugs that might have to be administered as a result. Also I've read that induction increases chances of a c section! I'm only 21 & this is my first baby! Idk what to think & I don't want to stress :/ any info would be so much appreciated!!

    What quartermisses said. That is crazy talk, unless he has a reason to induce that is medically relevant to YOU.

    My OB and I talked about inductions today (in that I asked her what her how long she would give me before inducing. She said that after 40 weeks they would monitor (via NST) twice a week and if everything is ok, she won't induce until 42 weeks. What is with all these induction-happy doctors??

    I would ask your OB if you can closely monitor for Pre-E, rather than doing a precautionary induction.

    The worst part is my mom was there and she sort of agreed. The thing is ive been blessed with a healthy pregnancy so i dont see the need but screw it I'm not gonna up my chances of c sec.

    For first time moms, hospitals in my state won't even consider a voluntary induction until 41 weeks! Your dr is being crazy.

    And you don't have pre-e??? Ummm that md is psycho. I'm completely against induction if I can help it but I have gestational hypertension and at some point, it's safer for me and the baby if she comes out early so I'm okay with being induced. But for you to have had a healthy pregnancy and him not let you go past 40 weeks for no legitimate reason??? A big WTF to that!

    Agree! Plus being induced is suppose to hurt like a mother.

    I just posted something similar to this. My doctor wants to induce me like next week. I'll be 38 weeks.. I'm 37w4d today. I am Petrified! I am a 24 year old FTM, and this is not how I envisioned my birth at all. I'm not even induceable yet as of this week, so I'm definitely more at a risk for a c section. I wish you luck!

    Your doctor can't make you do anything you don't want to do.

    Talk to him about it again and ask why inducing would be necessary for YOU, it has nothing to do with what happens to other people. Being a FTM they shouldn't even think about inducing until 41 weeks, this guy is insane.
