The closest thing I've ever seen to what the OP was describing was sitting in a plane and looking to my right and witnessing an *at least* 4 year old pull moms top down and go to town. The man sitting next to me almost threw up and I busted out laughing (mostly because he was so disgusted) but it was pretty insane...

It becomes disturbing to me when the kid is old enough to do that kind of stuff!  Just seems really weird and creepy to me.  Sorry to anyone breastfeeding this long .....

  • Yeah... If that's your path, by all means.... But pretty sure when you can demand it/ask for it....seeeeems a little long to me. That whole post so has me with the heebie geebies... Except for the cake, and I don't even really like cake, and yet I found myself wanting it. Perhaps just to comfort my hurting brain while reading.

  • Bahaha BF during a wedding ceremony...DEFINITE UO. Or wait, but what if your sister is a spoiled whore bia? Exception =))
    CafeMom Tickers
  • Oh my. Just, no. My brain hurts now. If her son was weeks old that'd be a different story to me. And even then, you go sit down to BF. I don't think this is MUD. I think it's a legit crazy person that is taking public (and extended) BF'ing to the extreme. Ohhh, so many more words I could say.

    Yeah, I'm with you.

I'm all for BFing, and if you want to do it in public, that's your business. That being said, everyone and their mother knows the attention BFing in public brings, and everyone and their mother also knows that on a woman's wedding day, the last thing you should do is purposely divert attention away from her.

I probably would have been upset like the sister, too. If your child is old enough to walk up to the altar and nurse, he is old enough to where dad should have taken him out of the church and given him a bottle of BM or a snack to hold him over until the ceremony was done. :\

  • The comments that poured in before they knew his age pissed me off.  No, you don't need to pump and give a bottle- some mothers can't.

  • How old is this son ... I feel like if he is having a temper tantrum he is old enough for a bottle of milk (pumped or otherwise)

If I were the sister I think I would have avoided having this chick as a bridesmaid... what a nightmare indeed!

Can you imagine BFing on the alter at your sisters wedding........ seriously did this even happen?!?!

    BabyFruit Ticker
  • ummmm, she nursed right before the ceremony and the kid couldn't even wait until after for another feeding? The longest ceremony I've every been to was my own and it was only an hour and 15 minutes. A newborn could wait that long for a second feeding. I can't tell if this story is true or not. She seemed so completely oblivious to the fact that breastfeeding while being on an altar is totally inappropriate that the story almost has to be fake.
  • Seriously, this kid needs some cheerios in his life...and maybe some juice/water for the love of God!  And, even if this was a full Catholic ceremony (which is what we had) it's, at the most, 45 minutes long.

I totally agree that there was plenty of other things that could have been done to calm him (breastmilk bottle at the least) or he should have been taken out of the church.  However, the Catholic wedding we were at this weekend was an hour and 20 minutes long, so they can get pretty lengthy.  I had to pee so bad by the end, but my husband was in the wedding and the mother of the groom had me sit with her in the second row =(  You bet I booked it down the side aisle as soon as the bride and groom were out!!

  • I agree it's mud BUT frankly the comments to the tune of "if he is old enough to ask for it, then he is old enough not to get it" annoy me to no end. Both my kids were able to "ask" for it, as in verbally  indicate that they would like to nurse, shortly after their 1st birthdays. And they certainly were not ready to wean at that point. **Stepping off extended BF soapbox**
