Finding new ob at 36 weeks

Went to dr today and found out my ob had her baby this morning putting her on 6 wk leave.. No big deal... I went to the practice to see her partner and ended up working with her...

Bomb dropped today that he just lost his hospital privaleges Friday and is in the middle of a law suit! He said I could stay there and they would help as much as they could, but with only 4 wks I've decided to change so that hopefully I know the dr or midwife that delivers this baby a little...

I think I found someone on a recommendation of a friend, but it's been a stressful morning...

  • Oh, wow!  That does make for a stressful day trying to get that all figured out.  Hope you like the OB you have found!

  • That sucks.
Good luck with a new one. Is there a way to have that partner recommend one and call in a favor?

  • That's awful to have to make that switch this late in the game, but hopefully the recommendation works our for you.  I don't think I could stay after finding out loss of privileges, did they say why?
  • He did some recommendations, but it's all over the place... I'm just hoping the new person works and its smooth from here on out

  • I didn't ask why... I just new I was probably switching...

  • No bueno.  Stay away.  Get a new OB now, as much as it stinks to have to do this so late in the game you'd rather be safe than sorry.  I work in credentialing and process the applications doctors file to get hospital privileges.  From experience, let me tell you that you would not believe how much it takes to suspend a physician's privileges.  Red tape, legal....as nice as he may be he must have screwed something up pretty badly.

  • Good luck finding a new one. If it helps, with my last pregnancy I switched at 36 weeks and it was no big deal at all. I found a great doctor, hope you will too!

  • I switched at 36 weeks too. Once the records were forwarded, it wasn't tough. GL

  • yikes!  good luck with a late transition!   it's a little unsettling, but really the l&d nurses do most of the helping anyway  :)   i hope you find someone new at the same hospital!

  • Sorry to hear! So your doctor was due around the same time as you??? I don't think I would have picked her as my doctor. Seems strange that anyone would..anyways good luck!
  • I didn't originally go to that office to see her, then I decided I liked her and continued to see her knowing I would switch to the other highly recommended dr. In the practice My last month (also didn't know she was pregnant until over half way through my pregnancy)... But I will be delivering in the same hospital regardless, there aren't options of other hospitals in my area unless I add another hr to my already 1 1/2 hr drive

What a PITA to have to figure this out at this stage! Glad you found someone though.

I think it's awful that she didn't say anything when you first started. I can understand she doesn't want to tell people early in her pregnancy, but I think she should have said she can't accept patients delivering at that time or something.

  • I'm in the same boat...kind of. My OB had her baby 2 weeks ago and won't be back in time to deliver, but we had already set it up to see the nurses and her partners for the last few weeks in the office and a doctor is already in place for delivery.

Try checking with the hospital where you're delivering. The doctor she set us up with is not through their office he just does deliveries at the hospital. I was hesitant because unless we scheduled a meet and greet we won't meet him until I go into labor or arrive for my c-section, but in a way since that's what he does all day every day I feel that he must be good at what he does and I'm not worried.
  • They have 3 on call drs that could deliver me if I stay, but one of those delivered dd and he has horrible bedside manner, so I don't want to risk having him again!
