Back/ hip pain

I'm sorry if there is another recent post about this! But I have reached a level of pain/frustration and am too impatient to go back through older posts.
FTM here @35 weeks. I am pretty petite I don't know if this makes a difference but all the weight I've gained is in my stomach and puts a lot of pressure on my back. That's totally normal of course ! But the last day or two and very strongly today my back and hips and butt have been killing me. It hurts to sit and it hurts to lie down and it hurts to stand up. Is this normal? Does it have something to do with my size or the baby's or the position he is in? Any tips to help relieve the pain a tad?
Any insight would be helpful! I know I should expect more discomfort from here on out I just like knowing what's going on as best I can! Thanks so much mommas!

  • Is it hurting from you left lower back, down your butt cheek into your leg? Could very well be sciatic nerve pain.

You could try a support belt as pp mentioned, something else you can try is rock tape...someone on my board recommended this, you can buy it online and look online for instructions and videos on how to apply it. It worked really well but unfortunately my skin was allergic to the adhesive and I had to stop using it :( other things to help with pain control are warms baths (the heat really relaxes the muscles and the water helps your belly float and takes the pressure off), heat packs, and stretches (they work best after a bath or heat packs when the muscles are relaxed). Also, a prenatal massage and/or chiropractor can probably help you out as well.
    I don't understand how the rock tape does anything but push your skin together. Sounds like a placebo thing to me but hey if it works to take your mind of it I'd say try anything. I myself am a baby when it comes to pain.

  • Things that help with my back and hip pain in no particular order:

    Short walks (long walks make it worse, 2-3 20 min walks a day helps a lot)
    Stretching, particularly child's pose and pelvic tilts/cat cow pose
    Prenatal massage
    Body pillow when sleeping
    Tylenol
    Drinking lots of water

  • Something that has helped my back/hip pain immensely is swimming. It allows you to be weightless for a little while plus helps you strengthen those back muscles needed to support the belly. Also, cat-cow stretches and pelvic rocking can help relieve some of the discomfort.

  • At my last Chiropractor visit Ihad mentioned that I began having hip pain, especially while sleeping. He adjusted me and then helped relax the muscles running down the sides of my hips/legs and then suggested using a pillow between your knees/legs while sleeping. I had been using a pillow but I don't think it was thick enough. Try a pillow at night and/or visit the chiropractor!
  • I too am petite and carry my babies/baby weight all out in front, in my belly. Last pregnancy the pain got so bad I would be walking across campus and had to stop every five minutes or so because my hip pain was so, so bad. 

    This time around since it's twins I invested in a maternity belt, which really helps with the back pain (and also with my stomach muscles feeling exhausted!!), but not the hips. Sleeping with a body pillow or even just a regular pillow between your legs will help, if you don't do this already. The only other thing I can really recommend is changing positions fairly frequently during the day: sitting too long will hurt you, but so will standing too long. 

    A PP recommended short walks; personally I am not able to walk that far before the pain makes it impossible. But it sounds like something that might help you, so it's worth a try!
