Guilt

DS has been sick for the past month. He had a virus that caused febrile seizures, then a respitory virus that caused breathing treatments and another hospital stay, and now he is back to coughing and having a runny nose. He was a pretty healthy baby and I'm regretting weaning now because I feel like maybe it's because of him not getting BM anymore. He's in a all daycare and I don't know what else I can do to keep him healthy. I just miss my healthy baby. And I can't help but wonder if anything else is going on even though the pedi says it's just viruses. No point to this just feeling working mom guilt and guilt over selfishly stopping pumping.

Hugs! I hope he's feeling better soon. And I know how you feel. I'm in the process of weaning now, and already feel guilt. We shouldn't though!

Did he just start going to day care? Also, I've noticed that sickness comes in spurts sometimes. 2 years ago DD1 and I had a cold every month for the whole fall/winter season. She's never had so many colds before or since then. Try not feel guilty. Hope he feels better soon.

Thanks ladies. He's been with the same sitters since he was 10'weeks old. He's still a happy baby I'm just feeling bad that he's been so sick lately. Mom guilt sucks.

So sorry, hang in there!! This was me last year, He was sick off and on from the week before Thanksgiving until May. It was either RSV, ear infections, a couple of throat infections, pink eye or some sort of stomach bug. I was so discouraged and really felt guilty about having to put him in daycare. I agree that mom guilt does suck!!

I hope things start turning around for you guys and he starts feeling better very soon!

I'm so sorry

There are some nasty viruses going around that kids are catching REGARDLESS of how they're fed! It's not your fault. It's the fault of nature.

Hang in there. It probably was just by chance that he got really sick when you started weaning. Do not blame yourself. The 18-month girl that we do the nanny share with was breastfed until 6 months and then on formula. She has never been sick.

Hope things start looking up.

Ugh. I'm so sorry. I totally get the mom guilt.

I really hope your LO feels better soon and catches a break for a good while. I agree with @SJandVA with the spurts of illnesses. We had a similar situation with C where every other month she had a cold or something and that went on for months. It was terrible and there's not a lot you can do besides what I'm sure you're already doing. I doubt weaning from BM is causing his current illness. It's not your fault.

Don't beat yourself up! DD was breastfed for a year and she had 3 colds plus RSV. So much for magical boobs.

I'm sorry about your son's health issues. I hope you can feel proud that you BF your son for as long as you did rather than beating yourself up over stopping pumping. Children get sick and it's not your fault.

Thanks ladies. I know this intellectually but the timing of it all sucked. I just hate the constant worry about fevers spiking and seizures and if his breathing is labored. Ahh! I know I can't put him in a bubble but insure would like to!
