TTC After a Loss

Introduction - Hope I do this right! (Toddler mentioned)

Hi all,

First, I'm so sorry we all find ourselves here!

I have a daughter who is almost 2. This past spring we decided to start trying for baby #2. I became pregnant in May, got the BFP but had a natural miscarriage at 5 wks. We were sad and disappointed but wanting to try again. I was cleared by my OB and we got pregnant again right away in mid-June. Got my first BFP on June 21. I took several tests over the next two weeks to try and reassure myself. My first appointment was on July 18 and I thought I was over 7 wks. During the ultrasound we discovered that I had been pregnant with twins but sadly one of the babies hadn't developed. The second baby was measuring 5w6d and had a slow heartbeat in the 80s. I met with the midwife in my practice who tried to reassure me. She felt that I must have gotten pregnant later than I thought and that the baby we were seeing was only 5 wks and that the heart had likely just started beating and would pick up. I knew when I started getting positive tests and thought that this baby was likely not developing as well but I tried to think positively. I didn't have any bleeding or cramping so was feeling very optimistic when we went for the follow up ultrasound on Aug 1. But unfortunately, the baby only measured 6w1d and the heart had stopped beating. We were devastated. We tried cytotec but my body didn't respond so I had a D&C on Aug 6. I had my follow up 10 days later with the surgeon (amazing OB, probably the kindest man I've ever met) and he recommended waiting 1 cycle and then trying again. He continues to emphasize that I'm only 26, healthy and have already carried a pregnancy to term so he doesn't think there is anything wrong and feels that we should have success with a future pregnancy.

So here I am. Ready to start TTC again... I got AF on Sept 9 and am starting the dreaded TWW tomorrow. The past two weeks have been such mixed emotions - excited to "be back in the game" but incredibly anxious and scared of going through another loss. Some days are good and I feel very optimistic, others are still very difficult. We are hoping and praying we'll get our rainbow baby soon.

I've been lurking for the past couple weeks but thought I'd go ahead and introduce myself. It seems like a wonderful group of women here! Thanks!

Welcome. I'm so sorry for your losses.

I'm not quite sure why you would into during your 2ww when there is a chance that in 10-14 days you'll be moving over. But to each their own I guess.

Best of luck, I hope your stay here is short.
  • I am very sorry for your losses, but welcome to the board

I am so sorry for your losses. Welcome to the board. Have you checked out the blog yet? It's a great resource. Also for all your 2WW nervousness the daily Crazy Train thread is a great place to post.
Thanks! Yes, I've been looking through the blog while lurking on here the past few weeks. Very informative! Again, I hope I didn't step on any toes with my original post.

  • Oh my goodness ladies. Yes I get it, I understand. I have read the rules and I myself wouldn't want to see a bunch of BFPs on here. I will not/would not post a BFP in this group. Since this is a TTC group I thought it would be ok to mention that I am trying this cycle, if not I apologize.

  • Since this is a TTC it's the norm that we're trying, although a few are not. It's just a little odd that you would reach out to a group of strangers for support and relationships when, in 2 weeks or less, you could be leaving. Just odd timing is all. Clearly we know most women on this board are trying.

We are just being extra careful and covering our bases. We've had a recent BFP post that dug up and old thread to tell us she was KU. Feelings were hurt. We just wanted to be sure you knew the protocol. Welcome again!

But then when is the right time?
My friends haven't experiences losses so they can't say much past the usual cliches, my mother is busy with my siblings and work, and my dear husband has been patient as a saint but he's a man and can really only take so much discussion of periods, ovulation, etc. So yes, I felt like it would be nice to have some support, offer support to others, and learn from others experiences. Following the recommendation on the blog I've lurked for a while and decided it was time to introduce myself.... I could be moving on in a couple weeks, but couldn't that be said about a lot of other new people joining this board?

Absolutely, and it happens all the time. I hope you do get to move on in 2 weeks. I guess I'm just saying, knowing you're in your 2ww and I'm literally in the middle of my second loss makes it hard for me to want to build a connection with you. It is nothing personal. There are just so many newbies that intro and are gone before I even recognize their screenname. That can get emotionally exhausting. Again, it's not that I think you don't belong, personally I just would have waited 14 days.
