Baby Gender - Side of Implantation

I just got pregnant with my second child and was wondering about implantation and genders.  There is a lot of debate as to if the side of implation or ovulation produces one sex or the other.  However, I was wondering if there is anyone out there who has had two different sex children and knows they both implanted on the same side.

Re: Baby Gender - Side of Implantation

  • I think this is an OWT.

    And I certainly don't think that the side you ovulated from matters.

    Also, you have to remember that some ultrasounds are mirror images.

    IF DX: DOR & Fragile X pre-mutation carrier
    2011: FSH 13.3 & E 99; AMH 0.54 2nd FSH 6.2 E 40's AFC: 8
    BFP from Clomid/IUI ~ Pre-e and IUGR during pregnancy ~ DS born 9/4/12
    Feb./March 2013: AMH less than 0.16 (undectable) and AFC = 4;
    BFP from supps ~ DS#2 due May 2014

  • Mostly OWT. There's a survey thread about this on one of the pregnancy sites. BabyCenter, maybe. About half say it was accurate, and about half say it wasn't. As with pretty much everything related to determining the sex of the baby without visual confirmation, the stats are about 50/50.

    The side you ovulated from definitely doesn't matter. Think of the women who release two or more eggs from one ovary and then end up with mixed multiples.

  • This theory isn't what side you ovulate from, it is what side the egg "chooses" to implant on.  Because of course, the sperm determine the sex of the baby.  There was a rather large research study done a while back claiming that 97% of girls would implant on the left and 97% of boys on the right.  I don't know if there is any credibility to the study and I liken it to old wives tales.   But, just for funzies, whip out your early transvaginal ultrasounds (you can't use over the belly ones) and see if it was true for your previous LOs or keep it in the back of your head for this LO.

    It was correct for both of my sister's kids and for my son.  But again, 50/50 toss a coin.  At least you can have fun this way without spending $34.98 at the pharmacy on intelligender....giggle snort.

  • Just out of curiosity, for those more familiar with the theory than I am: Why would one sex implant on one side and the other implant on the other side? What is the explanation (if any) for why this would happen?

    they didn't give a reason..lol.  And that is why I question this theory, there is no even hypothesis as to why this may happen.
