December 2010 Moms

10 Thing Monday

I know most of you have jumped ship to facebook, but kind of like having a baby/kid-specific place to share stuff so I don't overshare on facebook.

I've got a head full of thoughts related to kids today, so I thought I'd try something my other BMB does. feel free to post your own, if anybody is still here!

Ten thing Monday:

  1. Ever since a close encounter with an overflowing toilet last night, Sebastian likes to pretend he’s a guy named Bob the plumber.
  2. Going along with what a 2.75 year old is pretending makes things easier (and more fun) for everyone. Hi Bob! Are you ready to go to school Bob the plumber?
  3. The capacity of a 2.75 year old to absorb new ideas is really astounding. Today, Sebastian mentioned someone or something being Chinese. I asked whether he was Chinese, and he said “I’m from the United States.”
  4. Sebastian still likes to play with the spices in the cupboard. Since they’re alphabetized and he can reach the shelves at the bottom, he is much more familiar with turmeric, tarragon, sage, and sesame seeds than basil or bay leaves.
  5. Alden has a reputation as a good sleeper at daycare.
  6. I’m not sure whether this is good or bad – good because his caregivers might appreciate it? Or bad because it means he’s not getting enough attention and because he might reverse cycle with breastfeeding at night.
  7. Sebastian likes to spin around in circles a lot.
  8. God is a difficult concept to explain to a little kid. It’s easiest to do the creator God, but harder to explain how God is everywhere and appears to all people.
  9. I don’t think that the abstract passage from John – I am the light – was probably the best place for Sunday school to start.
  10. I hope I can go on a date with my husband soon, and am jealous of people who have family close by to babysit. With two kids in daycare, I feel guilty to spend the money and time away. I love our kids but miss alone time with him.

Re: 10 Thing Monday

  • Hey girl. I'm still here. I liked your ten things. I don't have a list at the moment, but I totally agree on the amazing learning capacity thing. G constantly astonishes me. Also I would kill for a date night. Sigh

  • I'm not going anywhere either!

I don't have a list but I loooooooove talking to Griff.  Its crazy how fast he's learning new things and remembering things that have happened in the past.  He's such a sponge.  And he's soooo polite.  Constantly saying "thank you" and "please" and "you're welcome."  Oh and he's starting to apologize without me prompting him.  I hear "Oh, sorry mom.  I didn't mean to do that" everyday.  Its sooo cute.  I mean, how can I be mad at that??  lol  I love when he just keeps blabbering on and making up stories and then stares at me afterwards.  I'm literally like "lol what?"

Bishop also turns around in circles but its mostly when hes dancing lol.

  • I joined the Facebook page - but it's just too many posts and too much to keep track of right now. And hard to match up real names and TB screen names.

I will still be checking and posting here as much as I can. Here are my random 10 kid things:

    1) My kids are so much better well behaved when they are by themselves. Sibling rivalry/spats are so crazy at this age already (almost 3 and 14 months).

    2) Jonny is a puzzle fiend right now - it's amazing how fast he can do an 18 or 24 piece puzzle.

    3) Benny just tries so hard to keep up and copy his older brother. It's going to be really interesting in 5 years when they are both in school and only 1 grade apart.

    4) Benny is in the in-between phase of 2 naps to 1 nap a day. I remember that transition being rough with Jonny, so the next few weeks will be interesting.

    5) Now that I have 2 boys I feel like I wouldn't know what to do with a baby girl - strange? flameful?

    6) Both the boys and myself have all had colds this past week. It's making us all miserable and even though I'm looking forward to fall/winter holidays, I'm not looking forward to cold/flu season

    7) I can't for the boys to share a room in another year or two. I want the current nursery back as an office/guest room!

    8) I'm really looking forward to holidays/Christmas this year since I feel like Jonny will really "get it" more this year than even last year.

....and that's all I can think of for now!

  • I haven't jumped ship.  I still enjoy checking out TB while I'm at work - it makes for a nice 'break'.

    1. I really wish S would be more interested in using the potty

    2. I am super frustrated with TTC#2 right now..which doesn't help anything.

    3. I hate to say it but DD is a favorite at her daycare.  It secretly makes me happier than it should.

    4. I love that S can count to twenty, say the ABC's about 90% correctly, and loves to sing Twinkle Little Star

    5. I need to buy a lower clothing rack for her closet because she likes to help hang up her coats/sweaters/shirts.

    6. She has a new addiction to Bubble Guppies and they are not on Netflix play now :(

    7. She has also been very interested in watching movies.  She is constantly going to our DVD rack and saying "Pick one?"

    8. I can't wait for her to see her new big girl bedroom for her birthday.  We have almost everything we need already.

    9. Struggling TTC #2 makes me regret going back to work FT.  I feel like S may be my only LO and I'm missing out on time with her.

    10. We are making progress on getting our house ready to sell.  So exciting!

  • I'm on both. TB is blocked at work and I hate doing it from my phone so I am usually only on after the threads are dead so I might be more active on FB but will still pop over here.

    1) It surprises me that I still struggle SAHM/WM/FT/PT. I guess I thought it was a decsison you made once and moved past, not so for me.

    2) My daughter's memory is incredible, she had a chocolate bunny this past Easter and she still talks about it

    3) Today was the quietest day I had at work in months, I appreciate it but don;t trust it....calm before the storm I say

    4) I love that my daughter is on a huge Santa kick right now and we spend time each night watching Christmas caroles on youtube

    5) I have that we are already one cold virus in to it and it isn't even October yet.

    I think I am maxed out at 5 : )

  • 1- PT will be the death of me. I feel like MIL is screwing it all up

2- ds is driving me crazy! He is so clingy and wild! I think it's related to dd being otw

3- I've been feeling a lot of pressure today. I'll be 37 weeks pregnant Wednesday so maybe there's some progress going on

4- ds loves to sing and play drums. He's obsessed with drums

5- he is so obsessed with drums that it has to be stated twice

6- I'm amazed at how much this kid learns and how smart he is

    7- it's only 6 and I'm ready for bedtime

8- his hair grows unbelievably fast. I feel like every time he gets a hair cut, it's time for another one

9- we had a problem with ds getting up at night and turning his light on to play. Dh turned his bed around so he's essentially in a crib again

10- he's obsessed with Pete the cat right now. He asks me everyday if Pete cried lol

  • I haven't abandoned ship either!

And I don't have a list, but kenandkendra, you alphabetize your spices?! Wow, so much more organized then me!

  • I'm still here too. Ill come back to post a list when I crawl out of the brain slump this Monday has dragged me in. The only thing I can think about is my a/s tomorrow. Eek!
  • Yay! I thought was going to be just me and cheekers left here :) Glad you're all still around.
@babycakes - so sweet how polite and thoughtful Griff is!
@tmntgirl - I totally remember that 2 nap to 1 nap transition and stressing out about it. Hope it works itself out.
@mrskelly & stephy - Is anyone ever totally at peace about SAHM/WM/PT/FT? I don't know that person if she exists! I know one day I feel one way, and the next totally different. It's hard to balance and not feel some sort of guilt.
@jbm - my guy's hair grows like a weed, too! I feel like we're constantly getting it cut only to have him look like a street urchin days later. And boy 37 weeks with an excitable & ornery toddler is a handful! I remember feeling exhausted and sick of S at that age. Get some rest if you can
@carlabrett - if you could see my house, you'd know that the alphabetized spices are a huge exception to the rule!

  • im still here!  ill post a list as soon as i have time to sit down for longer than 2 minutes.
  • I'm still here too :)
1- like other pp I'm amazed at what A remembers and learns. We were watching tv and he said "p says puh" it snapped me out of the bump and I was like what?!?!! When did you learn letter sounds? He knows quite a few, not by anything we or the sitter did. Dh thinks its from the leapfrog fridge magnet thing.

2- I swear the older A gets the clumsier he gets. In one morning he fell walking up the stairs, he walked into a wall, and slipped on a placemat.

3- my 2nd-J is a mommas boy and I'm loving all the momma snuggles right now. A was and is a daddy's boy although with 2 kiddos and me SAH more nowadays he has become a bit more snuggly with me.

4- I think there may come a day I need to stay away from TB if for no other reason than to not get baby fever from all the BFPs and new baby squishies.

5- we are working on manners with A. He asks to be excused after he finishes his meal and will put his bowl and plate in the sink. He's growing up so fast!!

    I guess I only have 5 things too :)

  • I haven't left either!  I'm doing both, but TB is blocked at work so I never get on until late (I feel like a West Coaster even though I'm in the Midwest!  LOL)

    1) My DC is really pushing me to potty train, and I just don't think he's ready.  She says he is, but I think it's just because she doesn't want to change him anymore.  She asked me today to buy him underwear and just cold turkey stop diapers.  Um, no.

    2) He has an incredible vocabulary, (well, at least I think so!) and can correct me when I call a piece of heavy machinery the wrong thing.  "Look, R, there's a loader!"  "No, Mommy, that's an excavator."  Duh!

    3) I get really really nervous about R growing up. I feel like I'm going to struggle with letting him do "normal" kid things, like ride his bike, go over to friend's houses by himself, etc.  And driving?  Oh HELL NO!

    4) H loves her brother so much!  He pokes her, pushes her down, takes toys away, etc, but she just adores him.

    5) R would eat nothing but PB & J if we let him.  H will eat almost anything!

    6) Fall is my favorite season and I can't wait to take the kids to the apple orchards, decorate for fall, etc.  H is going to be a bumblebee for Halloween, but I have no idea what R wants to be.  Maybe I should ask him?
    ;)

    7) An addition to #4, I am fully willing to let H beat the crap out of R when she gets older for all the abuse she takes!  And I hope she does!

    8) I am FINALLY over my sadness that I won't have any more babies...I LOVE being pregnant, but DAMN, I do NOT want anymore kids!!!  These 2 make me feel like I'm heading to an early grave a lot of days!

    9) I'm blessed to have 2 good sleepers

    10) If it wouldn't cost me a fortune in MORE student loans, I'd go back to school to be a doctor

  • 1)  Duncan is transitioning to one nap.  it is torture.  two is too many, one is not enough.  it was not this difficult with oliver.

    2)  Both boys are with me all day.  i think oliver would enjoy attending preschool this year but we need to save up, because in two years we will be paying for two in preschool.  i feel a little guilty.

    3)  Oliver will finally start swim lessons.  hes been begging for it, and practicing swimming in the tub.

    4)  im thinking of trying to pick up some work here and there.  id prefer not to, but money is so tight and im kind of worried ill be out of the career loop by the time the kids are in grade school.  plus, maybe it would be good to feel some accomplishment outside of the kids.  i dont know.

    5)  the boys are starting to play together more.  i mean, they played before,.. but now they will sit and quietly play together for periods of time.  digging, or building etc.  i often hear oliver explaining to duncan how something works.  its so adorable.  of course there are still tons of times they dont want to share :)

    6)  we had tons of ants this summer.  they are still lingering.  its so gross but i dont want to do anything super drastic because of the kids.

    7)  oliver has a crazy vocabulary too.  the other day he told me something was "Fragile"  then he went on to explain to me what fragile means.  a little teacher.  also duncan is suddenly getting lots of words (he is 17 months).  duck, book, mine, let-go, no, more, finished, etc.  love it.

    8) when duncan is mad he crosses his arms and makes a pouty face.  he learned it from oliver, and it is hilarious.  i laugh every time.  it makes him even more mad.

    9)  oliver's favorite toy right now is a stomp rocket.  he's obsessed. does anyone have one?  it was seriously the best $15 we have ever spent.  boy or girl, ages 2 and up.  12 year olds at the park even ask him to share.

    10)  we are going to start trying in january for our third and final baby.  i am considering trying the shettles method to try for a girl (dont hate please :).  we want a third baby no matter the gender...but if we are able, it would be fun to experience a girl.  if not, well, it probably would be great to be spoiled by 3 boys when i'm older, right?
