Stranger Danger!

Is anyone else's baby going through this phase yet? We have been taking baby girl to get togethers the past two weekends, and as soon as we walk in the door and she sees the "strangers", she makes this terrible about-to-cry face and pokes out her bottom lip. Then if someone comes up to us to say "Hi little girl!" and God beware touches her, she just bursts out screaming! I have no idea what is going on with her?!

Re: Stranger Danger!

  • I think they are just entering that phase. DS even did it to DH when I went to meet him for lunch on Friday. He wouldn't even stand to have DH look at him. It's like daddy only exists after 5 pm and on weekends lol.

  • Yes, my LO does that to my mum and dad too which breaks their heart.

She's been doing it to a spot in my living room as well and freaking me out.

  • LO does the exact same thing, pouty lip and all.  We went to DH's parent's yesterday for a BBQ, and about ten people got in his face at once.  He FLIPPED out.

  • That does make me feel a little better! We started worrying if we shelter her too much?!

It is so sad seeing them freak out like that, but I can't help but laugh at the pouty bottom lip. Too cute - until the wailing begins....

  • M is doing this now too. She burst into tears last week when my brother held her, and he's not a stranger to her. I felt so bad for him. She also did it to our neighbor, who she sees even more often than my brother, and very quickly escalated to the type of cry that she cried when she got her shots. I hope this phase doesn't last too long.

She's made me properly jump and look a couple of times.
@nonnidee trade you for the giggling?

  • From what I've been told, this is natural and is supposed to happen. It means they know who their mommy is and are able to develop attachments.

@Lolalipsy - my mom's dog was doing that and she ended up getting the house blessed...we totally believe in ghosts and spirits though so that would freak me out too.

  • @crazycoffeegirl our house dates back to the 1600s so it's really quite old and I've felt something a few times but ive always rationalised it with other things. Strange but even though I'm agnostic a blessing sounds comforting.

My mum doesn't like to stay with us because it creeps her out.

Freaking me out guys.  Old houses are scarey!!

Sorry didn't mean to scare anyone. As my grandad would say it's not the dead that hurt you it's the living.

A is going through this in an odd way. She will pout and "make strange" (my mom's wording) at select people while giggling and yelling for attention to others. It doesn't seem to matter that she knows my brother extremely well, he can't hold her. However, a relative she just met was more than welcome.

A also seems to be laughing at nothing, especially in the dark or at night. My youngest son did that a lot and when he could speak, he would talk about the things he saw, not imaginary friends though, and not to worry because there was a good guy too, to protect us. A lot of people had weird experiences in that house. Personally, I think we all have good imaginations. :)

Edit to add, I have to think it's imagination or I won't sleep at night. I am a huge chicken.
  • @crazycoffeegirl did the blessing work?
Baby girl born 5/20/13. Figuring it out as we go. :)

on the subject of supernatural....my LO coos the most when he is alone...I can hear it through the wall or the monitor.  I have been wondering if he is talking to someone!   I am thankful for the free babysitting from the other side :)!!

  • @ILoveSnacks - as far as I know it did. I remember when they built the house, they had it blessed by a Hawaiian priest, and a Buddhist monk, and then when her dog started staring into space and barking at nothing, she did it again and as far as I know, the dog isn't doing it anymore.

my incredibly friendly dog has been growling at a corner of our kitchen. I was thinking about blessing our house just in case.

K likes to look toward our door and giggle. I mean deep belly laugh. There's never anyone there when she does it
    Oh yes there is!
I meant human. I believe in spirits and things too. Babies seem to have a deeper connection to the supernatural. Similar to animals.
I believe this too. We saw an episode of Ghost Hunters where they took their dog. The dog was fixated on this pillar and wouldn't move. They recorded a creepy ass voice saying "the dog sees me." Now, I don't know if the show is real or fake but I freaked the fluck out.

And this is why I can't watch shows like that.
