Limp while walking?

So, for a while now it's kind of looked like DS is limping while he walks. It's always the same leg but I kind of just brushed it off and thought that I was just imagining it. Then this morning DH asked if I thought DS was limping. He's been walking for about a month now and I never noticed it when he first started walking.

I'm a terrible mother and haven't even made his 1 year appointment yet because I'm waiting so he and DD can do their appointments at the same time. I'll call today but is anyone else's LO's doing this? If I can, I'll take a video and post it.

Re: Limp while walking?

  • Does he wear shoes? Could they be too small?
DD  'limps' if she is barefoot and doesn't like the texture of the walking surface, could that be the issue?

  • DS dragged his leg a little for the first few weeks he started walking. I thought it was weird too, but it's not as noticeable anymore. I'm guessing it takes a while for them to get all leg movements and balance coordinated when first learning. Plus, it's such a new experience they're probably experimenting with different movements and doing funny little things with their legs and feet. I would wait a little longer before getting too concerned.

  • Hard to tell in the video, but it just looks like he is still getting the hang of walking.  I wouldn't be too alarmed by it, but bring it up at his 1 year appointment!

  • Is he keeping his knee straight? That is how Leo walks, without bending his knees. No reason to be concerned, I know he can bend his knees. He just needs to learn how to walk better over time.
