I haven't used them, but it's really not that bad to lug a carseat. We had the infant snap-in with stroller before DS1 grew out of it, and now we're looking at buying a carseat travel cart to put his Britax on (and him in it) since we won't be bringing our double stroller.

If you didn't want to go that route, you can always buy a bag for it. We did that and just wore it on our backs through airports.
We just attached a strap onto the back of our Radian and carried it through the airport. It was so easy. They also make carts that you can strap the seat to. Gogokidz or something?
FWIW, we've been on quite a few flights and I have never seen one of those safety harnesses. I've seen people either bring their carseat on or just have them wear the regular belt.
I've just had LO on my lap when they're younger than 2. On international flights they've given me a belt that hooks onto mine (not on domestic) and I've also put her in a bassinet or bouncy seat they set up for me at the bulkhead seat.
