Infant car seat yay!

So I located DS' infant car seat and bases I was worried it would be expired or will be expiring soon and I would have to get new ones and bases since DS is 4.5. Luckily they expire October 14. That will get us through until we need new convertible ones since those get used way longer.

  • Yay! $ saving Monday for you ;)

  • It's annoying though that seats have expiration dates since the seats are like brand new since DS only used them for 6 months since he was so tall.

  • Car seats have expiration dates?

  • Yes companies won't guarantee seats will keep kids safe after the date. I think it's so they can protect themselves. Plus car seats are in extreme temps with hot and cold in cars so the plastic can break down. We got our seats in early 2009 & expire in Oct 14. So you typically don't need to worry about the dates unless you have #2 years apart.

Yep. Typically 5-10 years from the date of manufacture, though that depends on the brand. The car seat's owner's manual should state it, and there is usually a sticker with a date or a date printed right into the plastic on the back of the seat stating "Do not use this seat after ______."

I went into full on crazy pregnant mode a few weeks ago and made DH dig our infant seat out of the basement to check the expiration date. December 2015!! There will only be 4 years between our oldest and youngest, so that seat is giving us our money's worth :)

  • Yay for you!

And for anyone else, always check dates!!
MIL was all excited that a friend gave her a seat to use for my DS. She kept telling me it expires in 2015.
Well, I just got a chance to check it out, since she wanted it installed in her car...it expired LAST summer (2012)!!!!

I'm glad I checked it before she used it.

  • I have yet to dig out our seat. I need to so it before snow flies, but I'm just not motivated.

I only did because I was getting the fall Halloween decorations out with DS and they were accessible.

  • Just checked our convertible seat. I know we had to buy atleast one but the other one is good until 12/15 so happy I won't have to buy 2 at a time.

  • I sold a lot of DS' baby things including his infant car seat because I was certain it was going to be years before I even thought if having another baby.

  • I checked ours and was happy to see that it expired 12/15.  He only used it for 6 months also, so I'd be bummed to have to buy a new one.

  • I was able to use our infant car seat for my first two, but it will be almost 6 years old by the time the baby is born and is expiring.  For this one I borrowed my sister's infant car seat, which works out well.
