Question for moms of walkers

DS is in that phase where he can walk if we're holding one hand, and if he's distracted, we can let go and he'll stand independently for several seconds before sitting down. How soon after this step did your LO take their first steps, and then start walking confidently?

Re: Question for moms of walkers

  • My LO's have been doing this for 2-3 months and they still don't walk independently. DS has taken several steps on his own (started a few weeks ago) but I wouldn't consider him a walker yet.

  • DS had his first steps the last week of July, and then he took a step or two here and there until August 31st. That was the day he took off, and he hasn't stopped!

  • I think about a month. Then one day she just decided she would walk from then on.

  • We're still in the middle stage I guess. 3 weeks ago yesterday is when he really started choosing to take a few steps between things (couch to couch or whatever). So I wouldn't say he's got it down perfect because he still falls at times when he's not focusing or trying to go too fast, but he chooses to walk all around now. I'd say about another week and he will have gotten it down. So about a month for us too.

  • For us, it was about a week from standing independently to taking her first steps, and then it was a little over a month before she was truly, confidently walking as her main mode of transportation.

  • I don't remember exactly...but after she took her first steps, it took probably 3-4 weeks before she was really confident in her walking.  She still preferred to crawl or walk with assistance for a while.

It takes a lot of confidence to take those first steps!
